Question about 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

Radio lock How do I remove the lock from the radio? i have a 98 gp gtp that sat for about a year (trans probs.) in my garage. About a month or so after i parked it the battery died. The theftlock feature on the radio has been locked since. The car is now driveable and the local gm dealer wants $100+ to unlock it (to hook up computer and reprogram radio). I tried holding (10 sec.) the 2&3 presets, then the 1&4 presets, and cannot get either of the 3-digit parts of the "factory unlock code" to appear on the display. After several attempts the display reads INoP. Is there any other way of retrieving the 6-digit "factory unlock code"??? (other than paying the dealer a ridiculas amount of hard earned money!) Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanx, Mike

GM DELCO THEFTLOCK RADIO UNLOCK CODE:
1. Press and hold presets 2 and 3 for about 5 to 10 seconds until you
get 3 digits on your display. This is the first 3 of 6 digits you will
need, so write 'em down.
2. After doing step one and writing down the code, immediately press
the
AM/FM button to get the last 3 of the 6 numbers you'll need, and write
'em down. (if you wait too long between steps 1 and 2 and the LOC code
displays again, just start over).
3. Call this number, it's a prerecorded message, so don't worry about
having to talk to anyone...1-800-537-5140. The voice will ask if
you're
calling for Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac, etc... When you here him tell
you
to press "2" for Pontiac, press 206010 and hit the # key. He'll ask
you
for the 6 digit code that you've written down. Enter that and press
the
* key. He will then give you a code, and the option to get additional
4
digit codes, but one should be sufficient.
4. Follow the normal procedure in your owners manual for unlocking the
radio with your new code...press the hour set button on your radio
until
you get the first two numbers of the code, then press the minute set
button until you've entered the last two numbers. Immediately press
the
AM/FM button once the correct code is entered and the code SEC or
"secured" will be displayed on the display screen. Now, just turn the
radio on, and your ready to roll.
There is an additional step you can take to remove all codes from the
radio and start from scratch by entering your own personalized 4 digit
code so that it won't get you in a pickle again! Just repeat step 4
and
you should get a display screen that reads ---. This means the code is
out, and you can now program your own code. Of course, once you
receive
the 4 digit code from the GM recorded message, just keep it in a safe
place, because you can use that same code again and again should you
have any more problems with it in the future. Good luck, and yes, it
does work.

Turned radio off then battery died, got vehicle fixed but no power to factory radio, all fuses check as good. Is there a trick to getting the radio to turn on again?

when the battery dies or is removed , the anti-theft code of the radio kicks in and the unit will not work again until a special code for that radio is reinstalled
the code could be in the user manual in the radio use section ,or there are sites on the net that may have the code for you

1997 pontiac grand prix gtp factory amp

Apparently it was available with and without. If you have a pair of sub speakers, then you have the amplifier. The factory radio was equipped with inputs for an optional multi-disc CD player so connecting an aftermarket player should be easy. You may have to add a 10A CD CHG fuse to the fuse block, ground the unit to a BLK/WHT wire, and connect the right output wire to connector 3 pin 10, the left output wire to pin 11, and the audio common lead to pin 12.

What would it do to my navsure n420i car sat nav / radio if i put a 13 amp fuse in if it's a 10 amp radio

The fuse is made to protect a 10amp draw 13 amps will start burning wires you need to follow the specs if your 10amp is blowing then there is a circuit prob.

1993 mazda 626: could not get trans out of park!

Ignition lock is activated: You over rode it but still have original problem. Alarm system might be confused. SO....

1 disconnect battery negative (-) cable(make you have radio code if any) to reactivate radio, which works anyway if code was never set.

2 press brake peddle for 5 seconds

3 reconnect negative cable to battery.

use key and twist diver door lock to OPEN (this resets alarm which might have caused ignition lock module to activate.

You should be able to turn on the ignition, start the engine and shift out of park. Hope this helps.
