Question about 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

Auto maintanence On my 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis, the driver side wiper does not always completely clean the windshield during heavy rains. either the "up" stoke or the "down" stroke may leave rain on the windshield. I have replaced the wiper blade & even exchanged the wiper blades from passenger-to-driver side with the same result. Is the wiper arm itself weak on the driver's side? How do you replace that wiper arm? Are there diagrams I can access on-line? Thanks for your help! Pianotech

1999 Merc. Grnd. Marquis Somebody put the new motor in wrong. Now the wiper arms won't park or at least hide away. I tried removing the wiper arm and relocating it in the park position. This isn't working, lol Help.

When i turn my wipers on one will clean the windshield and the other will not move, what do i need to do?

Someone will probably need to remove the wiper arms and the panel between the hood and the windshield to access the linkage coming from the wiper motor.

1996 Mercury Grand Marquis wipers don't work. I changed the motor and the fuse isn't blown

You need to take the plastic cowls off that cover the wiper arm linkage and wiper transmission to inspect it...cowl is held on with 3 Phillips screws near windshield and some one inch wide metal clips, take off the gasket that fits on top. If both are not working check the transmission where linkages attach, if one wiper blade is not working it is usually the drivers side where the nylon bushing that forns a ball/socket sort of connection fails due to build up of debris and the rusting of parts that follows, let me know if this helps.

Heater core is leaking on the floor

I had the same problem with my 2001 Mercury Marquis, but it wasn't the heater core, it was the compartment for the condensate drain for the air conditioning and the compartment to catch the rain water that comes down the windshield and drains through the windshield wiper cowling. You have to take off windshield wiper on passenger side and cowling underneath the wiper of the passenger side and you will see a screen over in the corner and that's where the box is for the drain. so much trash was down in there that the flapper wouldn't open to let the water out. Ours only leaked when it rained, but it looked like it could have been the heater core. Good luck.

We have the same problem on our 97 Grand Marquis. We have replaced the wiper blades and the drivers wiper arm with a used one. The problem was not completely solved but it did work better. We are going to replace the arm with a new one and see if that works better.

1996 Mercury Grand Marquis - wipers will not work. Have check multifunctional switch and motor. Both ok.

if motor and switch are ok and the motor is running, then it's the ball joints on the arms that have become disconnected underneath the windshield in the firewall vicinity. Also, the wiper arms could be stripped out.
