My Battery is always dead, although I have had it checked and it is fine. Also my key/ ignition won't take. I think the two are linked, as though the ignition keeps draining the battery whenever the car is stopped / not on. It's getting really bad as I can't go anywhere that I cannot hill start from.

Where is the timing mark for golf 1 1989 automatic???

If you look in back of the engine, you will see a hole. There is a scale for the timing there. Hook up your timing light and start the engine and you will see a mark. Line up the mark to the 6 degree mark on the scale

VW Golf 2000 1.6 16v automatic. Coolant temp. too low.

Is the heater nice and hot when the needle shows low temp? If the cooling fans turn on and the heater is hot, that leads me to believe the coolant temperature sensor is bad. You should try replacing that sensor. They are only $6 usd here. As long as your check engine light is not on and your fans are running, this will not hurt your car... but this is something you should fix soon if you can. Make sure the engine is cold when you replace the sensor

Battery gets flat very quickly especially if the car is parked for a few days. the charging unit (altinator) is charging a 100%. This for a golf 1300, 1993 model

check the cells on the battery, remove the cover off the top of the battery and fill up the cells with pure water, see if that solves it, if not then its time for a new battery. hope this helps :-)

Re sitting the radio in my VW golf

The number buttons on the stereo change the code, so push the 1 button 3 times for 3, 2 button 1 time for 1, and so on. If your code was 2255, you'd hit the 1 button 2 times, the 2 button 2 times, the 3 button 5 times, and the 4 button 5 times. When the code is displayed on the screen, you press Mode and Scan at the same time AND HOLD THEM until the radio unlocks. It'll let you know if it's the right number.
