You need to reach in under the dash until you feel the switch. On the side opposite the wired side, work your way toward the dash until you feel a little button. It is spring loaded. Push it in, then pull out the switch knob from the front while holding the button in. Once the knob is out completely, you will see a screw holding the switch to the dash - undo this and bob's your uncle (in my case, my nephew).
Push the button on the headlight switch.......Pull switch knob out to on position, then reach around under dash and there is a silver spring loaded button you push up or squeeze and pull the stem right out of the switch !

For everyone's future reference, the windshield wiper knob has a spring metal clip holding the knob to the shaft. There is a small slot under the knob. Starting at the back edge of the knob, use a small screwdriver to push into that slot in the same direction you want to remove the knob. That will push the metal clip and release the knob.
you may need to replace the headlight switch it controls the dimer function, try turning the knob to the left your dome light should come on,alittle to the right and that controls the dash lights,if bad you can remove the old one by reaching under the dash and on the switch body there is a small spring loaded pin you push in and pull the knob out to the end on the shalf ,this allows you to remove the knob and shalf so you can unbolt the switch and disconnect the wire plug.
