Fan keeps running after engine is shut off

Shut off the engine on my 2003 Jeep Cherokee, went in to eat breakfast with my family. Came out and the battery was dead. Looked under the hood and saw that the fan was still running. What would cause that to happen.

It is normal for the fan to run when engine is off. Engine temps actually rise when the engine is shut off, the heat will rise through the engine compartment. So a Coolant temp sensor controls when the fan shuts on and off, obviously based on the temps of the anti-freeze. The fans are a high draw item, but It would take much longer than an hour breakfast for the battery to run dead. I would check out the battery and charging system first. Is the CEL on? Let me know and we will trouble shoot from there. Thank you for using fixya.com

Went to the store and came out and the jeep is totally dead electrically. nothing works and no lights, nothing. there is not response to the key and nothing. What could it be?

check to see if youhave a broken belt under the hood.maybe if not that i suggest you have the altenator checked to see if it's good, if not that, have your battery tested. but wait! do this 1st check main fuse box under the hood just to be sure the main engine fuse isn't blown! hope this helps!!

I have a 2000 jeep cherokee sport that has a check engine light that starts blinking & it has a shaking in the engin. i have treid everything. any suggestions?

What have you tried? Shaking can be from some of your cylinders not firing causing the engine to wobble. Do you have rodents? I had some rabbits get under my hood and eat my spark plug wires. Sounds just like what you are describing.

Find relay and give it a tap, to see if that helps. Not sure on that if its along drivers fender under hood or not, but listen for click from small 1"x1" roughly relay attached somewhere in engine compartment area, firewall, fender area.

When trying to start my 2003 jeep cherokee nothing happens. It is like as if the car is not connected to a battery because like I said nothing happens. When I looked under my hood of course my battery was...

Hi just because the battery is new does not mean anything turn on your head light to see if they come on, if not most likely the battery, if you have a volt meter I would check the battery. Now if the light do come on then I would check the fuse for the ignition system, pull the fuse complete out to check if it is blown. These two check I would start with. Please let me know how you make out.

Cheers

I think I have found the problem. When I wiggle the ignition switch the turn signals and radio go on and off so I feel the issue is in the ignition switch. From what I understand the actual electronics for the switch are at the base of the sterring column behind the lower dash panel and is connected by a rod that may need adjusting.
