IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE 2 UNRELATED PROBLEMS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT 9 OT OF 10 TIMES IS DUE TO AN O2 SENSOR, ITS PART OF YOUR SMOG EQUIPMENT. IF YOU DRIVE RELATIVELY SHORT DISTANCES ALL THE TIME THE OXYGEN SENSORS WILL GET PLUGGED CAUSING THE LIGHT TO COME ON, REPLACING THE OXYGEN SENSORS ISNT A BIG DEAL. NOW FOR THE GAS GUAGE NOT WORKING, IT COULD BE A FEW THINGS, FIRST CHECK YOUR FUSES, IF THEY ARE OK, IT COULD BE A RELAY, A BAD GUAGE OR JUST A LOOSE WIRE TO THE GUAGE,OR THE SENDING UNIT FROM THE TANK TO THE GUAGE. BUT MOST LIKELY ITS PROBABLY A SENSOR THAT HAS GONE BAD.

How to reset Service Engine Soon light after replacing gas cap? Took to AutoZone when the Service Engine Soon light came on Error code P0440.

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 minutes. Reconnect after and the code will clear. However if the problem persists, the code will come back with in 20 miles or 30 minutes.

GMC sent me a letter saying that gas guage not working has been a problem and they will fix and pay half.
Also my mechanic says that it is common to get a check engine lite when you add gas to tank, especially when you fill it. Sometimes I will take off gas cap and let air out then replace cap and the check engine lite will go off. (usually). Nothing to worry about.

What usually is the problem when the service Engine soon light suddenly comes on and the engine sounds fine?

could be many things, but the first thing I would check is the gas cap, if it is not tight or is not sealing properly the purge system will not work , and that will cause the service engine soon light, but keep in mind the car has over 30 sensors that can turn on the light.

My Service Engine Soon light is on continously. It has come on before when I used gas with 10% ethenol, but went off after driving for a while with gas that didn't contain the ethenol.

your "service engine soon" light is a reminder for you to GET A SERVICE,it will come on,then go out for a few miles, then come on again,changing the fuel will have NO effect.

Fuel guage/fuel empty light errors on 1999 chrysler sebring.

1989 F150 351 oil pressure guage starting dropping to 0 suddenly and engine light comes one. When I rev the engine it goes back to normal but a soon as the rpms drop the needle goes all the way to the left...

Hi:
Usually your oil light doesnt come on unless you have less than 10 lbs of oil pressure. You either have a bad oil pressure sending unit, or your engines oil pump is bad. The only way to verify your engines oil pressure is to buy a direct reading pressure guage and install it on your truck, or have a mechanic check your engine oil pressure. Eitherway, you need to do something soon, because the long term effects of running with low oil pressure will ruin your truck engine.

on your last tune up you might have gotten some bad plugs i know they are new but sometimes they dont work straight out of the factory and your fuel guage connections are backwards
