Question about 1990 Nissan Maxima

3 Answers

I had 2 bad rear struts replaced recently(last week) on 1997 Nissan Maxima. The new struts have not solved the problem, driving on any uneven surface there are resulting sounds similar to a loose object in the trunk, I have removed everything from the trunk however the result is the same. Please may I have your recommendation to solve this problem.

Mine was doing the same thing. I figured out it was just the radio antenna that was making a clunking noise because it was loose.

Sounds like the exhaust is banging, check the hangers and the heat shield.

To check and see if it is a strut problem push down on the rear of the vehicle. the car should only bounce 1 to 2 times once released go from side to side if it bounces more than 2 times that shows a worn strut. You can also jack the vehicle up and check the rear tire for play. if you have play it could be a strut or a trailing arm bushing.

Yes loosening the top strut/bracket is needed to adjust the alignment, the rear should be fine unless there is damage to rear suspension compontents that need replaced, however for that vehicle just the front.

Need new struts on my 97 Nissan Maxima . Do the

No, usually struts come without springs. Some aftermakets are available as complete assembly with strut, sping, and mount. This is the best way to buy if you doing them yourself. A little more expensive but you are replacing everything and will not have to take them to a shop to have spings changed over. I would not attempt to do this yourself even with rented sping compressor because it is extreamly dagerous. Strut spings can kill you, play it safe. Good Luck

Change struts 1999 nissan maxima

Make sure you get a spring compressor and I reccomend replacing both struts, dust boots, mounts and bearings. Usualyl due to age the mount/bearing will cause noise/steering issuse and the dust boots are there to help the struts last longer by not letting water/dirt ruin the strut seals
