Can't get to the spark plugs in a 2003 Ford Taurus

There is another car part that is blocking access to the spark plugs in my 2003 Ford Taurus. My husband is attempting to change the plugs but we can't figure out how to get this other part off to get to some of the spark plugs.

I am assuming you have the 3.0L Duratec engine. Although the job seems daunting, it's actually easy to remove the upper half of the intake manifold plenum. This took me about 40 minutes to remove the first time I did it, and leaves the rear three spark plugs wide open.

A good repair manual such as the Chilton's manual for the 1996-2005 Ford Taurus has the step-by-step. You should get a new set of intake plenum seals (from Ford or most auto parts stores, which may have to special order them) along with the spark plugs. The seals are a set oval rings made of silicone rubber. Yours may not need them but if you damage one getting the plenum off, or if they have shrunk with age, you'll be glad you got them. They're about $16 a set.

Just replaced plugs in my 2003 taurus. Rear ones were difficult but managed without having to remove anything. Maybe try using smaller tools, or combination of tools. I had to use two different types of socket extensions.

How do i replace the rear spark plugsn a 2002 ford

On the dual overhead cam 3.0 liter you must remove the upper intake plenum to access the right bank spark plugs and wires.
On the single cam 3.0 liter I have seen guys remove the wiper cowel to gain access, but I just reach around the drivers side behind the throttle body.

Chage spark plugs on 2003 taurus

this is relatively easy i will suggest that you get a sparkplug socket with a swivel head this will keep you from breaking off the plugs in the head. to remove the plugs turn counter clockwise i will also suggest that you take them out 1 at a time and replace them the same way unless your sure as to what the firing order is. start all plugs by hand first to insure that they wont be cross threaded then tighten them down to a snug fit usually a 1/4 turn after they seat. hope this helps you.
