Engine Doesnt turn over. . .

How would I get the Startermotor to turn over?
when I turn on the ignition the engine does not make a noise, it does nothng ((the lights, wipers, air con and stereo all go just the engine doesnt turn over)).

I have checked fuses but they all fine, apart from there are two missing that are called "ENGINE CNT". Will the missing fuses effect the engine truning over?

there is a pipe that has been put throught the bonnet that connects to the air filter [my friends put it in to "increase" the air intake but soon after they made the modification the engine woulnt tun over. . .]
would that have somethng to do with it?

cheers

cool. thank you for the reply/solution. hmm it maybe, it went for a WOF but they never said anything about the startermotor. my father thinks it might be what my friends did. but i ont know. lol =]

. . push starting is the only way that I can get it going at the moment. there are some tubes that are just dangling around the airfilter, would they do anything?

i brought the car off trade me and there was no airfilter when i got it and so im not to sure about the fuses. would they actualy do anything?

  • dobbiewilson Oct 05, 2008

when i try to start it there is no noise waht so ever. hmm, will try the battery. would jumpstarting using another vehicle work?

the pipes are very thin, they are simmilar to the ones connected to the spark plugs [[all spark plug pipe things are attatched]] (they are little rubbery ones that hang near the airfilter.)

thank you very much for helping me with my car troubles =]

OK dobbie, there is a fuse/relay panel/box under your hood, check the starting relay, this will be a 30 to 50 amp relay, pull out the relay and check for voltage with a 12V test light or a multimeter if you have one. There should be power-in with nothing turned on. If you have power, look at the other relays for the A/C relay, these two relays are usually the same amperage, and switch them and try starting then. If there is no power in at the relay you will have to start tracing wiring for a break with a connection or in the cable. Let me know if you need more help, ok. quicbric

Have you tried tow starting or push starting sounds like you may have a faulty starter motor if your friends have just put a air inlet pipe into the air filter housing this should not be a problem but check they have not knicked a cable while cuting the holes if you have missing fuses who took them out if nobody moved them they may just be spare holes for stuff on another model

If it runs fine after a push start you have a starter problem or ignition switch or the cable inbetween have you had yor battery checked a flat battery will also cause this

when starting do u get a clicking noise from the starter try turning the headlights on full turn on ignition are they bright or very dim if there dim the battery is flat if there bright try starting what happens do they dimm if they do the ignition switch is fine and you have a faulty starter or flat battery

the pipes hanging down wont stop the engine turning over they may stop it starting or make it run bad but it will still turn over and try to start they sound like engine brether and vacume pipes oh are you sure there pipes not thick cables the starter cable that gose to the battery is quite thick

you could try jump starting this will rule out a flat battery the pipes sound like breather pipes they should not stop it turning over

My truck keeps cranking over when I take the key out so I have to disconnect the battery an I just can't figure the problem out plz help!!!

check the wiring on the startermotor, should have a large red terminal which will be perminant live 12volt or 24 volt what ever your wagon battery supply is? you can check this with a multimeter. then check a smaller wire to solinoid above this gives a live feed only when key is turned to start position, if voltage on wire then remove from startermotor make sure you dont earth it out on body causing a short. if still turning over on its own its the startermotor faulty, if stops look for starter relay or key switch faulty.

Fitted new battery to 523i 1999 bmw car did not start ,after 2 days of push starting car started on key now car will nut start

firstly check that your battery has a charge using a voltmeter, it needs to have 12v
if no charge, you will need to charge the battery.
if it has a charge, and the battery terminal connections are good, you will be looking for the the engine to turn(attempt to start)
if it turns and stasts, fine.
if the engine does not turn, you will need to look at the startermotor connections. (power supply to the starter motor via the ignition switch turns the engine)
hope this helps

If you don't even get a click or an attempt to start, then you probably have a faulty ignition switch. The contacts get worn and creates an intermittent no start condition. Hope this helps.

The vehicle does not start. I replaced the starter as well as ignition and the car still does not start. What else could it be?

Could be any number of things. does the engine crank when you turn the key? If it does, your battery and startermotor is probably fine. If your car has an immobilizer it could be playing up to. Make sure that the immobilizer light is not on if you have one. It could also be a blocked fuel line. Try checking that the engine is feed fuel.

I guess that your car is fuelejected. If it is it could be any number af sensors. If you have a engine management light on your dash you can get a garage to read out the fault code. That will l give you an idear of what is wrong.

We go to crank the car, it turns over but wont start

You will need a diagnostician or a code reader to find the problem. Usually a fuel pump or spark problem......

Ford galaxy frozen

Charge battery, purchase new one if old one is no good, If your water is frozen the engine requires antifreeze at least 50/50 mix, and then try it

Not starting

Well, from what you are saying, if the starter is clicking or ticking (making that noise when you turn the key), then the starter is bad and needs replacing.

Is it making any noise?

Engine turns, catches, then dies

Could be the ignition switch. When you crank the engine, the ignition coil gets a voltage source that is different than when the car runs. This would give you the symptom you describe.

My 2001 Honda Accord will not start, do I need a new starter?

if you turn the key and engine fails to budge ,are you getting a clicking sound as if their is life from your startermotor ,if so maybe your solenoid is sticking which is part of your starter. give it a tap with a hammer .if it doesnt cure the problem than your starter is faulty. or even select nuetral on your transmission and try then.
