There should be a sticker on the back or underneath on the bottom that tells what charging voltage should be. If not look where the charger plugs into the box, it should say how many volts it is and what polarity it is.

08 dodge magnum intermitant crank( clickity click)

I call that chatter and means the starter solenoid
sees only 8vdc from the battery , cranked.
there are 6 causes, due to 6 things(parts) make cranking go.
why do all that, and not do jumper cable jump starts first. if works then battery is NO GOOD>in car.

posted this 100s times.
both cable ends (x4) not loose or rusty.to bat.
1: battery good means alternator not bad too.
load test the battery or jump cable jump it.
we know the starter is good, last words of your post.
2: then key switch good, and ST pin sends 12vdc
to the PRNDL switch.
3:PRNDL on/in the tranny must work in park and neutral both so all techs and tow truck mean test neutral cranking next or gets egg in face.
4: next up (it is a series path of DC ST )
the starter relay closes, called energizes.
and sends 12vdc to the soleniod and starter cranks.
5: starter bad , no it is not.
6: wires bad.(and or connectors)
did not jump start your car
did not charge battery and load test it. oops

comments:
NO 15 year old battery is good, my 50 year record is 10 years life, (and not common)
did not crank in N neutral PRNDL.
did hot wire starter and starter is loaded for bear (good)
and wires. yes can fail #6
so all techs know that and out pops Mr./ DMM set to volts to find where the path fails easy.
normal cranking voltage is 11vdc.
the 1 volt loss is battery internal resistance at 300amps load.
8vdc the solenoid chatters like mad. a huge key fact.
it only takes a voltmeter to find this failure.
after jumper cable jumps fail,
if not fail Jumped, the battery is bad,(or rusty lugs)

good luck , be happy for 6 and not 50 engine failures and lots of tests. that.

we charge the battery first then load test it , a tool..
or have shop test your battery ,even walked in.
or find a good battery out of 2nd good car. TRY IT.
or jumper cable jump start your car off 2nd running car just like AAA Auto club tow trunks do endlessly.
day by day.
or the voltmeter across battery terms (clean) show 8vdc cranking is a bad battery.

not withstanding driving car the battery dicharged dead , alternator dead.

Okay so my friend has a Kia Forte Coupe and I think it's a 2009 or 2010 and a friend used her car to jump hers and after she tried to start her car, my friends died as well. Once it was jumped by...

some vehicles cannot be jump started from another vehicle with the engine running on donna starter as it damages the ecu. you just use the battery or a jump starter system. so time if you remove the battery and put on charge with a battery charger the time it takes for the battery to be fully charged should give the ecu time to drain down on its components. if you leave the ignition and lights on with the battery disconnected. but only jump start without the other vehicle's engine running.

Bmw z3 1999 will not crank

The problem sounds like the battery has run down. Even though the ignition is off, things like clocks and the radio draw small amounts of power to retain their settings, and the instrument cluster doesn't draw as much power as the starter. It usually takes about a month or so to drain the battery. Try jump starting the car, or put it on a battery charger for a while.

I have a homelite 720 generator but cant fingd the instruction manual and i need to know if the charger leads only charge a battery or can be used as jump leads i know this might sound stupid but i wo

I can't find any reference to a Homelite model 720 generator but most battery charging systems do not supply enough amps to run a car starter. Battery chargers usually work in the two (trickle) to ten amp range. Car starters need way more amps to have enough power to turn an engine over, depending on the size and number of cylinders in the motor. Some chargers have a switch with a 60 amp 'start' position to help the battery turn the motor over, but without that there is little chance the charger side of your generator will supply enough amps to help your battery.

My 98 aurora will start if u jump it. but without jumping it i get absolutly nothing. I dont know if this can be a starter, altenator, ignition switch or something as little as a battery terminal

If you can jump start it, then the battery must be weak, or possibly shorted out. Have you tried another battery? I assume that you are hooking the jumper cables to the battery terminals when you are jump starting the engine. That would eliminate any problem with the ignition switch. Put a battery charger on your battery and see if it will hold a charge.

My hyundai sonata 1999 cannot start but their is light in the dash box what will i do

I would jump it or charge up the battery fully (over 3 days if necessary with a trickle charger).

The light on the dash box doesn't mean the car can start, because the starter takes up way more current than the light bulbs in the dash box.

Engine will not start! Turn key all the way over and I just hear *click* and I trickle charged it over night - when I tried to start it this morning it made some kind of weird noise and now it still just...

Make sure your Battery terminals are clean and cable clamps tight.Clicking is most likely a starter selodiod not engaging the starter motor. When it goes you need to change the starter. If you can see the starter you can try this to start and get the repair done.Try taping the soleniod (the small unit ontop or bottom, side of the starter). If you have anyone who can give you a jump start with cables this sometimes works due to the extra power if your battery is not full or lost it's cranking amps. Finally if you can see the connections on the starter jump with an INSULATED screw driver (key in the on possition)you should hear the starter turn. Good Luck

'97 caddy Devile can't jump start is there an electronic lockout?

yes, the battery is under the rear seat passenger side, it sounds like the cable ends are corroded, give them a good cleaning and try to jump it then. The starter is under the intake. It is no wonder they went into bankruptcy. I am in Detroit so I know this story well this late model Cadillac driveline is terrible to service

1999 infinity won't turn over

four things in the starting system ignition switch, battery , starter or the starter reley. When you tried to jump start it the car would turn over for a sec then make a sound? Your Infinity may have its starter contacts worn out. In this case i normaly will tap on the starter with a hammer while someone is trying to crank it over, kind of shade tree but without a voltometer to gauge starter draw its the next best thing. let me know what happened!!
