Re: my 7.3 idles ruff till u rev it up a lil then its...
Change CPS (cam position sensor). You can get them from NAPA for around 30 but you can get one from international for a T444E which is the 7.3. for about 20 and they last longer/work better. Recently Ford has been sending all the owners of these trucks recalls for the cam sensor. If that doesnt work, check Injection Control Pressure Sensor, Fuel Filter, Injection Pressure Regulator, HPOP, and scan the computer for shits and giggles with a snap on machine to make sure the oil pressure is where it should be.

How does it idle in park , does it run ruff or smooth? Are any lights lit on the dash , check engine etc. ? Could have a partially plugged IAC air passage .idle air control (IAC) valve ! The engine computer uses the IAC to control idle , when under a load such as when put into gear the computer raises the idle ! It does this by allowing more air to by pass the closed throttle into the engine raising the idle ! If these air passages clog they restrict the air flow an cause a idle problem ! Now if it runs ruff at idle in park you could have vacuum leak ! Rough Idle How to Fix Ford Taurus Engine Stalls at Stop Signs
sounds like water in distrubutor cap - pull cap and check for moisture/carbon arcing (gray lines )- engine got hot- water evaporated of back of block- got into cap thru vents on bottom- no escape when cool- repeat
I would have to say the fuel/water separator filter is clogged up. The filter will remove water and crud from the gas. It looks more like a small can under the car. If the car set up with a low tank of gas, water will condensate inside and once the new fuel sloshes around it gets all this junk off the walls of the tank and that gets sucked in the filter. Try and replace that first..
Sounds like either an idle air control valve or a TPS sensor. These items will cause a check engine light to come on as well.. I recommend heading to an AUTOZONE or an AAMCO and you can get the check engine light checked for free. Hopefully you dont live in California cause then you can only go to AAMCO cause AUTOZONE cant do it in California. Good luck
Your EGR valve shouldn't open up during idle or the engine will run rough and may even stall. Remove it and clean the plunger and port with a wire brush and some carb cleaner. Test the diaphragm with a vacuum pump. If it doesn't work after cleaning, or the diaphragm is bad, buy a new EGR valve.
