I know it can be a bear if the bolts and pins are rusted. Unless the new straps are OEM, some after market straps don't fit quite as well and you need Godzilla strength to manover them into place to get them pinned and bolted back up.
You shouldn't have to drop the tank as long as you do the straps one at a time. Get a floor jack, transmission jack or even a motorcycle jack and place wood under the gas tank and do one strap at a time. I used a second jack to help push the strap in place so I could push it into place on a 97 Dakota. Good luck and sometimes it goes smooth but, some times it makes a preacher say things they wouldn't say in church. :)

You should be able to replace the straps without removing the tank. You can hold up the end of the tank with a jack stand and a blanket over it then remove the ******** that side. Then you can replace the strap with a new one and then move to the other side and do the same.

SOURCE: replacing fuel pump on 2002 sunfire

after the straps are off ,it should drop a few inches about eight or so ,than you should disconnect the two lines beside the fuel filter that run to the fuel pump, than you should disconnect the third one at the fuel pump, than once complete slowly pull the tank to the passenger side of vehicle,it will take a little foce but will come,it really helps if you could get the vehicle up about a foot or more before starting and you should have more than enough room to pull tank and fuel pump out, undo the two plugs than you have to turn the locking plate counter clockwise thats on top of fuel pump to get the pump out and if taking the tank right out disconnect the main line for fuelling

SOURCE: 1995 chevrolet pickup 1500, how do I remove gas tank

the fuel tank must be removed from the vehicle to replace pump or lift the box from the frame. If you remove the tank it is held up with two tank straps and the lines must be unhooked as you lower it. good luck unless you have access to a lift.

SOURCE: need help replacing fuel pump. 1996 ford

Disconnect the battery & any fuel lines you can and the same with electrical connectors first of all. Drain the tankwith a siphon pump if 3 gallons or more of fuel is present. It gets heavy to replace back in and dangerous too.. Have the tank supported now & remove the bolts from the tanks mounting straps. Drop the tank down about 6 inches and check for other connection that need to be removed
RFemove the center retainer to remove the fuel pump with the sending unit
I would replace both items since it is an older car and also replace the filter sock to the pump too
Reverse this procedure to install

I have a 2000 bravada that i need to replace the fuel lines on and i need a diagram for the gas tank and fuel lines.

Replacing fuel lines on a 2000 Bravada involves dropping the gas tank and replacing the damaged or worn out lines. Here are the steps involved in dropping the gas tank and replacing the fuel lines:
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent any electrical hazards.
  2. Remove the fuel pump fuse or relay to relieve the fuel pressure.
  3. Raise the vehicle using a jack and jack stands and secure it in place.
  4. Locate the fuel tank and disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections from the tank.
  5. Support the fuel tank with a jack or stand and remove the straps or bolts that hold it in place.
  6. Lower the fuel tank and remove it from under the vehicle.
  7. Inspect the fuel lines and replace any that are damaged or worn out.
  8. Use the appropriate fuel line connectors and clamps to replace the fuel lines.
  9. Install the fuel tank and reconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections.
  10. Reinstall the straps or bolts that hold the fuel tank in place.
  11. Lower the vehicle and reconnect the negative battery cable.
As for the tools needed, you will likely need a socket set, wrenches, pliers, a jack and jack stands, and a fuel line disconnect tool. You may also need a fuel line repair kit if the damage is significant.
It is important to consult a repair manual or seek the help of a qualified mechanic if you are unsure about any step in this process. Additionally, be sure to follow proper safety precautions when working with fuel and fuel lines.

How to drop gas tank on 2005 CTS Cadillac

Much easier if the tank is empty. Siphon or pump the fuel out of the tank. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise the vehicle and install jack stands to ensure the vehicle is not going to drop on you. There are mechanical straps that hold the tank in place. There are also electrical connections for the fuel pump and fuel lines to be disconnected. Place a jack under the tank to support it and then remove the straps holding the tank in place. Lower the tank enough to gain access to the fuel lines and electrical connection. Disconnect the electrical and fuel lines and lower the tank until it clears the vehicle.
Be VERY careful with the fuel that was drained and whatever fuel remains in the tank. It is very dangerous.

Can someone tell me how to remove the fuel tank of my 2002 Subaru Forester

remove battery terminals. empty or drain out all the gas you can. take loose the filler neck from the tank or fuel filler door. Remove or take loose all fuel lines and electrical connectors. Place a jack under the tank with something soft as to not scratch/dent/ or puncture the tank, and jack it up to hold tank in place as you remove the bolts holding the tank straps in place. with the tank straps loose and placed out of the way, gently lower tank to ground and remove from vehicle. Tank may have to slide out over axles if its mounted over them.

Replace fuel pump

you have to remove the gas tank from under the rear of the car, Jack the car up as high as you can get it Place jack stands under the vehicle to be safe. Place jack under the tank, remove the filler hose and small hose from the tank, Remove the two straps that hold the tank in place. Lower the tank slowly until you have access to the fuel lines and wire connector going to the tank. You may have to have special fuel line disconnector tools to remove the lines. Get them at Auto parts store. Lower the tank and remove the pump from the tank. Reverse the procedure when installing.

How do you drop the fuel tank on a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan to replace the fuel filter?

On most these, there are two tank straps which are bolted to the undercarriage which hold the tank in position. It's easier to do with the tank empty or very close to empty. Place something under it to support it such as a jack and remove the bolts holding the tank straps in place, that should let the tank drop out, then you can remove the connections for fuel and electrical.

I need to know how do i change a fuel pump on a 1994 lincoln town car

  • First, you need to make sure you only have a gallon or so left in the tank. Siphon off the gas into an approved container.
  • Place the car in jack stands for easier access to the gas tank.
  • You will need to remove the fill hose and vent line from the filler neck.
  • Place a floor jack under the fuel tank; remove the straps that hold the tank in place. Carefully lower the tank.
  • You will need to remove the gas lines and vapor lines going to the tank. You may need a special tool for this. You can purchase at a local auto parts store. The tool is placed on the fuel line then pushed into the connector pushing back the fingers that hold the connector together.
  • After disconnecting lines and wires to tank drop tank all the way to the ground.
  • If you have the old style, you will need a flat screwdriver and a small hammer to remove the retaining ring that holds the assembly onto the tank. There is three tabs to tap on with the screwdriver and hammer. The new style requires a strap wrench to unscrew the retainer.
  • With the retaining ring removed you can remove the assembly from the tank.
  • Replace the fuel pump and the fuel strainer.
  • Assembly reverse procedure.

Where is the fuel pump reset button in a 1993 Chevrolet Caprice?

The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank, to replace it u must remove the gas tank from the car, there is no other access, the tank is held in 2 steel straps, u will need the car as high off the ground as poss, use a good floor jack to raise the car, then support the car on jack stands, put the jack under the tank and remove the steel straps thgat hold the fuel tank in, drop the tank down far enough so u can remove the fuel lines and the electrical connectors to tank components, remove the filler neck screws and drop tank out, undo the retainer ring that holds the fuel pump module in place in side the tank and remove the fuel pump, be very careful not to create any sparks, these can catch fire very easy, do the job in an area with really good ventilation, best if done outside.

How to replace a fuel pump in a 95 sebring

yes it is in the tank.....and in some cases, easy access is through the trunk...just lift up the panels and see what's under by your spare tire.....if not, then you will have to drop the tank....
when replacing your tank, do the filter and strainer at the bottom of the pump at the same time..trust me, this will save you a lot of time and money mucking around...
if you're interested in doing the job yourself, then you must put the car on jack stands...locate the tank....loosen the hold down straps...i think they 2 15mm bolts....don't drop the straps right out at this point...undo the clamps holding in the filler tube. with a jack and a block of wood on it, place it under the tank and remove the straps.....SLOWLY lower the jack until the the top of the tank is expose enough to reach the fuel lines going into the pump. with caution not to break any clips or nipples, or lines, remove the two fuel lines going to the pump...there should be a clip there that you need to squeeze in and remove the lines...both are like that...unplug the electrical connector and vent tubes if any.....with a helper, slowly remove the tank from the filler neck tube and lower the tank...once tank is on floor, allow for lots of ventilation...there should be a locking ring holding the fuel pump into place...undo the locking ring, by either using a hammer and BRASS punch or if its a plastic ring, big pair of channel lock pliers.....remove and the pump will come up slightly...remove pump from tank, careful not to damage the level sender. very carefully remove from tank.....once out drain excessive fuel into the tank and remove strainer....and install new one....its very important you replace the strainer with your new pump....and new fuel filter as well...okay? good luck..
