A should be two bolts holding the starter, gen, chevy are vetical, frome bottom, before that is attemped, please remove positive cable from battery, then remove wires/cable from solenoid on starter,if this not accessable, you can drop starter, then remove leads, pls do not let starter hang by the leads if possible, thnku, good luck.

You have to get at these wires from the Wheel well wall! its almost impossible to drop the starter and get at the wires while it hangs!! Try undoing those wires from the wheel well wall and then drop the starter! but of course do disconnect the positive wire from the battery! also you may have to unbolt the Bell Housing in order to drop the starter without any issues

How to change starter

Take negative off battery post. Take off big end of cable from starter. and the small solenoid wire. Two bolts hold starter on (some cars use three bolts). Take them out and starter is free. Reverse procedure to install new starter.

Good luck.

Starter makes a screeching noise sometimes just after the motor starts

Replace the starter before it ruins the flywheel. You have a worn out drive that applies to the flywheel. Flywheels are very very hard to change, in fact you can change 10 or 15 starters in the same time changing one flywheel

no special tools needed use a 1/2 inch or a 9/16 wrench for bolts but rule # 1 before you work on any electrical parts on your truck is to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery then take the starter off you 2 blots holding the starter to the engine take them off they maybe a little tight you my have use a little muscle once you take them out pull out the starter then you have to unscrew the cables use the same procedure to install I hope this information is of use GOOD LUCK

How do i change the starter on a 1999 sr5 4runner

You'll need basic hand tools to change out the starter. The starter is usually held in place by 2 or 3 bolts. You'll need to make sure you note where the electrical connections go in order to replace them in the correct location following starter replacement. You'll have to get under the vehicle to replace the starter, even so, It shouldn't take more than an hour.
