Fuses My 2002 Cougar XR had the air conditioner repaired, but no cool air comes out...at the same time my cigarette lighter which I use to charge my cell phone no longer works. Is this a fuse problem? I just located the fuse box but have no idea which fuse to check....it's all greek to me and I hate to take it back in to the shop because they keep it for 2 or 3 days. Used cigarette lighter to inflate tire, left inflater on for a long time now cigarette lighter doesn't work and car doesn't always start

It sounds like you might have drained your battery! When the car is running does the Cigarette lighter produce power? It should be working while the car is running. That would also explain why the car starts sporadically. Try leaving the car on for 40 minutes. That might charge the battery enough.

If the compressor cycles on and off very fast, you most likely are low on coolant and it needs recharged.
The cigarette lighter light is not on the same line as the lighter itself. Check your fuses.
You could have a problem with the damper in the vent system, giving you different temperatures on either side of the vehicle.

Cigarrette lighter (front) in 2002 ford explorer - all fuses good. Key inside lighter caused a spark and it doesn't work.

Look in your manual for the Power Distribution Box reference in Roadside Emergencies, page 210. It should be located under the hood on the driver's side. My 2002 Explorer has two power points on the center console and the 20A fuses in the Power Distribution Box for them are number 7 and number 9. They cost $3.99 each at AutoZone. The cigar lighter fuse under the dash is unrelated.

Look under the hood where the fuses are and their is a fuse box and opened it and flip the lid upside down and look for the cigarette symbol or the name and change the fuse where it indicates on the fuse's are if that doesn't work, take apart the cigarette device and look for any burnt marks or see if the wires are disconnected or problems and change or fix the wiring.

Cigarette Lighter Coming on but power not strong enough to charge anything

the two problems that you posted could be connected somehow by the alternator not charging because of the belt issue. so if you have a low battery, the cigarette lighter would have a low voltage also.

then on the ipod issue, the memory of the radio could have been lost due to removal of battery cables or the battery really went down on its voltage. just re-configure your radio to accept the ipod music.

tnx 4 using fixya,

Fuses

the fuse for the cigarette lighter is located in the fuse box under the hood. It is a 20 Amp (yellow fuse) in position #32. You can check the lid of the fuse box under the hood for a diagram to show the positions.
