Door won't unlatch or come open

I having an issue with my 1999 ford explore drivers side door being stuck shut. I am unable to open it either from the inside or the outside handle. I have pulled the panel enough to look in and move the rods but it won't budge. I think the power lock is stuck in the lock position and froze up.

Any suggesting on how I can get the latch to release the door so I can repair it?

Ford had a problem with the door handles not working properly. They are cheap plastic. If the exterior door handle is broken, you will need to drill out the rivets that hold it in, and then get the door open and the panel off. You have to disconnect the rod going to it. Then, remove the handle. If you don't want to drill again, I suggest replacing the rivets with a bolt and nut easily obtainable at your hardware store. I've found that a M7 bolt works very well. If you are having a problem with the interior door handle, it's the same problem. Remember to check your door latch because if your exterior handle is broken, then your latch isn't working properly. I got one at Ford for about 40 bucks.

My 1999 ford explorer door locks keep locking and opening, can it be a fuse? If so where can I get a fuse diagram? mine does not have one...Thanx

it is either the drivers side door lock or the passenger side but i would go for the drivers door first, it wants a new lock but more often than not removing the door panel and squirting with a proper oil can with engine oil in around the door lock and the operating mechanism will cure it

1998 4x4 ford explore driver side door will not

There are long linkage rods from the inside handle to the latch assembly. There should be an adjustment on these links. Too tight keeps latch from locking, too loose it won't unlatch. Use a screw driver or rod to trip the latch asm so you don't have to keep opening and closing the door. Also if it sticks closed and won't unlatch, the door won't be locked closed on you.

On my 1999 Ford Explorer when you open the drivers side door the interior light does not come on. I had the front door latches replaced about six months ago. Could the problem be with the replaced front...

The lights work the same way as your fridgerator does. There is a push button located on the door or some where around the door frame. This could have been disconnected or damaged.

Sounds like one of the door switches is broken. On your model, it could be a small plunger by the front of each door jamb, or the latch itself. Check them all for visible damage first, then test each on for function.

Unfortunately, This is a very common problem with Ford Explorers! Ford replaces the locks when it encounters this issue. I managed to unseize my passanger door and tailgate lock, but the drivers door lock is broken beyond repair. You can purchase new remotes for your explorer and program them very easily. Just google ford key fobs...
