Question about 1995 Honda Accord

95 honda accord V6 tachometer jumping and cutting out.

My 1995 honda accord V6 2.7L's tachometer jumps around time to time and the engine cuts out. It is not all the time but frequently. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, but still nothing. I have been looking for a loose ground but have found none. Any suggestions on something else to look for or a more specific location to look for loose wires?

I had the same problem with my 1995 Honda Accord V6 2.7L a year ago. It was a pain to have Honda diagnose the problem because it was intermittent and every time I took my car in to the dealership they said they couldn't reproduce the problem, but the longer you wait the more frequently your tachometer will fluctuate. I finally stopped by the dealership when the tachometer was jumping and they were able to diagnose the problem. In my case there was a faulty resistor in the ignition coil, but the entire ignition coil needs to be replaced. I don't know anything about cars but I know this fixed my problem. I went directly though Honda's service center so I know they charged me more than an independent repair shop but I'm looking at my invoice now and I paid $150 for the ignition coil and $200 for labor. After Honda diagnosed the problem I searched for "1995 honda accord ignition coil tachometer" and found that other people had the same problem and replacing the ignition coil was the fix. Hope this helps.

Mrjizzo let me give u some advice for the future. When it comes to these 95 v6 accords, Honda will take u for a ride in charges. If u don't know how to do the work yourself look it up on u tube. Cause I replaced all plugs and wires and fully removed ans cleaned my distributor cap and rotor and coil pack in under an hour. And the coil is a 80 dollar part. There's no way it took Honda over two hours to replace that. If u ever see this comment and have questions u can reach me at jeremydiaz444@gmail.com. I've got a full jdm swap 2.7l and these things are a pain to repair cause they r rare. But I can tell u a lot about this car.

@Jeremy - Thanks for the advice, however, I have since sold my '95 Accord. I haven't spent any time under the hood -- hence taking my car to the dealership service center to get overcharged -- so most of the stuff you said sounds like Greek to me. Anyways, I hope you were able to fix the issue with your Accord.

Sounds like the sending unit has an intermittent short to ground. Unhook the the wire from the sending unit, and see if the needle stops jumping around. If it quits jumping around, replace the sending unit. If it still jumps around, you have a bare spot somewhere on the wire and it is hitting ground which will cause the needle to jump. Cut out the bad part of the wire and splice in a new section. That should fix it.

Cranks won't start

First you must check to see if engine is mechanical sound by performing a compression test. remove the spark plugs install a compression gauge in the spark plug hole and crank engine about 4 cycles compare readings to all cylinders reading should be around 125-150 psi readings in the 50 psi range possible jumped or broken timing belt. If engine is mechanically sound test for spark at the spark plugs use a spark plug laid against valve cover and have some one crank it over look for the spark to jump the gap. A no spark problem is internal in the distributor.

I have a 1995 Accord with the same problem

The first thing to check is the coil and wires.

Even the coil may look clean the inner side of the wire contacts can be coated with green/white color power.

Take your time to pull each plug ONE AT A TIME to ensure everything are CLEAN.

My bet is a failing coil.

1995 honda accord cutting out

Honda has issued a recall on several models which have problems with the ignition switch. The recall includes vehicles from about 1992 through 2004 ( I'm really not sure of the years. ) Do a search for Honda ignition switch recall and you'll find some links. When you call the dealer I would suggest that you have your VIN handy so he can confirm your vehicle. This is a recall and should not cost you a dime for the repair.
