Might be the crank sensor. Those have a tendency to just break without warning. It's located at the base of the engine at the end of the crankshaft, behind the timing belt

If this is a single seprentine belt the tension setting is automatic and is not adjustable. Why do you think it needs adjustment?

WHERE IS THE SERPENTINE BELT LOCATED ON A 2003 HYUNDAI SONATA

Vehicles Covered: Hyundai Sonata 2002-2004 (2.4L & 2.7L Engines)

In 2003, Hyundai produced two types of Sonata:
Available engines:
4 Cylinders 2.4L VIN "S", MFI DOHC - see Figures 1 and 3.
6 Cylinders 2.7L VIN "H", MFI DOHC - see Figures 2 and 3.

To differentiate between these types of 2003 Hyundai Sonatas, the VIN 8th digit (Engine Type) will either be "S" or "H" as in the table above.

To locate the Engine drive belt, jack up the vehicle & place it onto jack stands, then slide under the car (toss a cardboard mat down first), then, once under the car, remove the (plastic) engine splash shield. Once removed, the drive & accessory belts are easily observed.

The "COMPRESSOR" refers to the A/C compressor, and "GENERATOR" refers to the Alternator.

The Belt Routing on the Left is "With A/C", on the Right is "without A/C"

Inspection - Drivebelt and Accessory Belts

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. Worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced.

Drivebelt Removal & Installation - 2003 Sonata (2.4L and 2.7L engines)

Raise and support the vehicle.
Remove the engine splash shield.
Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension.
Remove the drive belt from the alternator.
Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.
Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.

To install:

Install the drive belt to the accessory drive pulley.
Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
Install the drive belt to the alternator.
Ensure the drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.
Slowly release the drive belt tensioner
Install the engine splash shield.
Lower the vehicle.

Here's the best illustration I can find of the Hyundai 2.4L and 2.7L engines - the drivebelt seems to be located on the passenger side of both of these transversely mounted engines.

Car engine shuts down while driving and will not restart. Diagnostic machine displays code 1701.

Hi,

On a Hyundai this error code indicates a a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor). You will have to replace it as the circuit is open and it is faulty.

Thanks for using FixYa.

MY 2003 V6 SONATA STALLED OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING , IT WOULD NOT START WHILE I WAS COASTING TO A STOP BUT DID START RIGHT BACK UP AFTER I PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED THE KEY OFF. I DROVE ABOUT 15 MILES...

This happens rarely but especially in hot weather you can get an Air bubble in the fuel line that will cause your car to stall out due to fuel starvation. This is normally resolve itself when you switch the engine off and on thus causing the fuel pump to prime itself again.

2003 hyundia sonata made before 2/2003

you should be able to get replacement parts at Napa or Oreillys they a fairly in expensive. but only if the are the drive in kind, meaning you need to take a hammer to knock them out of the rotor assembly then you just take a drift pin/punch and hammer them back in. hope this is helpful. please rate this solution. thanks
