Question about 2002 Toyota Corolla
The light stays on (check engine) can not pass emissions.
Your car engine may have some hidden problem, suggest you take it to dealer workshop to have you car ECU scan and it will resolve the problem once and for all.

I have a 2005 Camry that has this as a 'feature'. the check engine light comes on after a few thousand miles to indicate that the oil has to be changed. Even if you change the oil, the light comes on unless you reset it. If this is also applicable to your Corolla, check your manual for exact instructions. I always have to look up how to reset it. It is a combination of turning your key in the ignition and holding the odometer reset button. I have to do this every so often. Btw, if this is the cause of your check engine light, it is only meant as a reminder to you, there is nothing wrong with the car.
