The engine will turn over but the car will not crank. The S light will come on and stay on. When thecar cools off if it has been running then maybe it will start.

These cars are notorious for having a bad main relay. Try covering up the dashboard to keep it from heating up by direct sunlight. If this sometime solves the problem then it is your main relay that is located under the dash on the driver's side.

I would start by checking all the grounds for corrosion and or tightness also it may be a good idea to remove the starter then have it checked, good luck

When you say crank do you mean Engine cranks or Starter activity?
What does it do when you try to restart?

Dashboard lights up and no starter noise at all?

No lights at all on Dash and no starter noise?

Starter spins wildly?

Need all details.

2006 Pontiac g6 dies when the engine is hot after running awhile but will start up again when it cools down? Dealer told me I Ned a transmission but someone else said they thought it was a crank sensor. I...

I would run the fault codes and look for a temperature sensor. It will also show up a faulty crank/cam position sensor and TCM fault as well . I would stay away from the transmission replacement idea until I was sure that the transmission was the reason for the overheating or hot stopping problems. To set your mind at ease have a pressure test done on the transmission to check for internal problems

might be the Fuel Pump Relay. They get intermittent like this. If it was never changed, I'd start there

2001 DODGE RUNS FOR AWHILE,THENS CUT OFF,IT WON'T CRANK BACK TILL BATTERY IS DICONNECTED,AND SITS AWHILE.I HAD THE ENGINE LIGHT CHECKED THE CODE WAS P1391.

The code p1391 is telling you that your ckp/cmp sensor signal is lost. What it is saying in normal terms is that the (crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor) are not sending a signal from time to time. That is why the car cuts out and will not start. First thing is to look at both sensors and check the wireing to each for any damage. The ckp is located on the front of motor on bottom side. The cmp sensor is located on the back of engine near the top. You have either one or both sensors that are not giving a signal to the pcm (power control module ). Hope this will help.

Car ran hot and cut off, will not run but cranks,

could be fuel filter or injectors. Might be the throttle actuator.

1999 chevy malibu, stalls, no restart after getting to running temperture. fuel ok, cranks but misfires when hot. cools down and starts. runs good cold. crank sensors ok

Sounds to be a bad ignition module or one of the coil packs. Will need a scan tool to know what cylinder (s) are misfiring in order to narrow it down.

1994 honda accord will start runs awhile then cuts out .

Could be fuel delivery; fuel filter clogged, worn fuel pump.
Does it still have battery power when it dies, cranks but no start? How long does it take to start again? When does this occur, engine hot/cold? Does it happen all the time or sometimes? How long does it run until it cuts?

94 cherokee, shuts down after running for awhile

Without testing, best guess is to check the crank sensor (check cold and hot, when problem is happening) This sensor is a magnetic coil pickup and may be shorting when hot) Pickup is on left side of bellhousing and can be tested for output with a digital ohmeter. I don't have the specs but they are easy to find in nearly every repair manual. I think its 200 (+) (-) 75ohms.Anything outside of that is suspect. The sensor itself is a pain in the **** to get to.... To replace, I've gone as far as cutting slots into the ears, so the screws can be left in bellhousing and the sensor slides under them, Anyhow, it takes patience, especially working on the ground.
