If you have your ignition turned on to accessory (just before starting) then you are actually running engine managment computer and more.. this eats up the battery power very quickly on its own. Add a couple of accessories and your radio or cd playing and you are looking at the problem you are having. I'm afraid short of re-wiring your socket so it has power even with ignition key removed there is nothing you can do

Someone attempted to steal my 1998 Savana Conversion van, I had the steering column replaced and now it still won't stay started, and a security light is on the dash board. Is there a fuel pump reset...

Hi, the security system has to learn the new key resistor in the new column. If you try to start it, leave the key on for 10 mins, the security light will go off. Turn the key off, try to start it again, and release the key. The light will come back on again. Wait another 10 mins, intill the light goes out again. (leaving the key on). This has to be done 3 times total of 30 mins. When the light goes out a 3rd time, the vehicle should start, and run. Remember to turn off the headlamps, heater, radio, etc... as they consume power, and you do not want to kill the battery. Good luck...Coop

Security light comes on and vehicle wont start

You could try resetting the computer. The car maybe in lockout mode. Try turning your car over….leave the ignition on. Wait exactly 10 min. Then try turning over again….again leave the key on. Wait exactly 10 min and do it a third time….this time the car should start…maybe run a lil rough while it relearns the processes of your vehicle again. It is important to wait the exact 10 min each time. You will probably need a battery charger or a set of jumper cables because if your car goes low during this process it will not work. Good luck and I hope this works.
