I'm having trouble with my wipers as they will only move when they want to. I've been told it might be the switch. Is this true? If so, what other vehicles have the same switch as the 97 Jimmy? Thanks.

This may be obvious, but did you check the fuse? Another cause can be a faulty or disconnected wiper switch controlling the dash light dimming. Try repeatedly moving this rotary switch from one end to the other to see if it is just burned spots on the switch wiper.
Okay, we will need to pin point the short, first remove connector from wiper motor and install a fuse and see if it blows. if it does then we know its not the wiper motor.next, will fuse blow when key is turned on or do you have to turn on signals? if its when signals are working then check all bulbs, remove signal bulbs one at a time and make sure the correct bulb is in the socket and the bulb and socket are good, if all checks out then i would say you may have a bad switch, let me know what the outcome of these tests are i will help you fix problem or give you price. good day
It sounds like you may have a broken drive from the electric motor or the linkage to the wiper arms have broken..
The only way to tell for sure is to strip out the wiper motor and the linkages..which can be a big job and can entail removal of several other parts first..
Try moving the wiper arms manually, with your hands..
If you can move the wiper arms across the screen then the linkages have broken and will need to be replaced as they are not a repairable item..
if you check/follow the wire loom from the switch/stalk it will route underneath lower dash alongside steer column then normally it has a plug which plugs into main loom when you req this switch/stalk as new it comes complete with its short wire loom fitted ready to fit/plug in
Auto headlights do go off when turn signal is put on. The wiper problem could very well be in the blinker switch in the column, they are know to go out on these trucks. Run some tests before replacing.
Sounds like the combination switch is bad. The comination switch is for the turn signals and high beams and sometimes cruise control and windshield wipers. The combination switch is the turn signal lever. Also might want to check turn signal flasher operation.
