Question about 1989 Dodge Ramcharger

1 Answer

I have a 1991 dodge ram charger and it tries to start and sounds like its going to start over but it wont. And as we try to start it the battery seems to die after a few tries so we have to charge it and try again.

did you try wiring up the batt. to the coil?? if you have not try doing this:

wire up the + side of the batt. to the + side of coil.

then wire up the - side of the batt. to the - side of the coil.

did you check the little white box??

To clarify - the engine cranks then starts.
If it won't crank in any gear, I would check the neutral safety switch first.
You can also jumper the starter solenoid to make sure the starter will crank the engine manually without the circuit from the key switch.

Replace the battery. Draining a car battery down completely will cause damage and decrease its capacity. If the battery was more than a couple of years old then it's time to replace.

Sounds like the IAC sensor is bad..Try this when it doesnt start instead of pumping it which wont do anything because its computer controlled hold the gas pedal to the floor. If it start its the idle air control located on the throttle plate..So rememeber the day it doesn't start hold gas pedal to floor and start it.If nothing we have different problems..Let me know and I will guide you through next steps....

2006 dodge ram diesel won't turn over to start

Sir I can help you with this, I have all the service manuals on your truck and will provide anything you need, but this honestly sounds like a bad wire connection or ground on a primary battery cable. I would trace all my battery cables and clean every connection even the engine ground cable and the one at your starter. I will be glad to help you further, I can post step by step trouble shooting guides on your truck if you need them. Hope this helps.
