Power steering lacking at parking and slow turns

Hello
I have a Olds delta 88,1998 which has 300,000km on it.When just starting and engine is cool, power steering assist works perfect; However when vehicle is driven for a while and everything is up to temp, steering assist is lacking for parking and slow turns.I have changed the belt and refreshed the fluid. There are no leaks and the pump is quiet .When engine rpm is slightly higher everything works OK.Most of the 300,000kms were highway driving. Would appreciate your help thanks. Erich ,

It is possible that the pump is failing...even though it is quiet. It could also be that the steering rack inner seals have lost their effectiveness. When the fluid heats up, it gets thinner, and it is more likely to leak past worn seals, which you undoubted have somewhere. But after 300,000 miles...you can't complain to GM. Those cars are about as bullet proof as they come. Good luck.

With the power steering quitting immediately, it indicates a broken belt or serious lack of power steeering fluid. If it's fluid, you have a leak allowing it to escape.

The "tapping noise" sounds like it might be the belt flapping around with engine running.

Sounds like a ground issue. Look for any ground points around the area of the engine where you were. There are several bolts that have ground wires attached on the manifold and head areas.
