Question about 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Temp gauge Truck overheated due to bad radiator replaced radiator ran truck gauge all the way over pass 260 but the truck running cool and normal. gauge will fall sometimes when you shut it off but will jump back pass 260 at anytime . Changed the sensor by the therm housing already is it the gauge

The sender for the gauge is on the cylinder head near the spark plug if you unplug it the gauge should stay all the way cold then ground it out it will go all the way hot if that reads like that replace the coolant sensor

Engine overheating...radiator?


If the radiator was blocked you would have a very hot motor. I am thinking that the wire to the temp sender unit has broken or fallen of and is shorting out somewhere as this sends the gauge to full overheat. If ok replace the temp sender unit as it probably has a internal fault.

1996_gmc_sierra Heat gauge started going from 260 degrees back to normal. I replaced heat sensor then thermostat. This summer had complete radiator and cap put in. The gauge says its running at 230 an


My Mountaineer had a similar problem. When driving it, the temp needle would slowly go up and up for like 3 minutes then it would come down within about 30 seconds. Then it would slowly rise again. just kept doing this over and over but it never went too high. My gauge didn't have numbers on it but it would go up about half way (not near the too hot level though) then fall back down to about a quarter of the way on the gauge. Found out that the fan clutch was bad on my radiator fan. It was not engaging and disengaging at the right times. New fan clutch solved the problem and probably saved the engine from overheating eventually if it had gotten even worse.

2002 malibu runs hot.


Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket or maybe a cracked head.This can cause overheating and the check engine light to come on.The code for the o2 sensor is probably caused by coolant getting into the exhaust system and coating the sensor.The coolant fan may work but it cannot remove enough heat from the rad to make the engine cool off.Try some engine coolant stop leak to see if it will help.This maybe only a temperary fix.Let me know if you need more.MOE

I have 2003 grand cherokee with 140000 miles that overheats at idle. as soon as i start moving again, the temp goes back to normal.


You have two fan's on your truck, 1 is a fan clutch runs with the drive belt, 2 elec fan motor, with test light and engine running at normal temp, just a little bit above 1/2 way on your temp gauge check voltage at elec. cooling fan harness if you have voltage at one of the two wire's and fan don't turn on, bad cooling fan motor, on the fan clutch after you check voltage at elec. fan motor turn engine off, with your hand spin drive belt fan if it spin's freely bad fan clutch, replace it.Also check cooling level.Hope this was very helpful

96 dodge ram runs hot.....replaced everything...help!


Gosh...in this day and age that is not that hot.which is hard to believe. are you experiencing temp gauges in the red or overheating? Im seeing some vehicles blazing at 250- 260 F and still rambling on ...I like the old 180 degree days from the past personally but due to USA emmission laws,some of these engines need to run this hot to pass rigid emmission standards

Temp gauge often reads too hot, engine normal.


It sounds like your cooling fans are not comming on by themselves, but when you turn on the ac it forces them to turn on. Make sure relay is good, then replace coolant temp sensor, this may have failed no telling pcm to turn on cooling fans. Thanks

Temp gauge went to 260 & stayed there. What could be the problem?


The only real way to answer your questions is for you to open the hood and look it over. Once it has cooled down, re-fill the cooling system (use water...it's cheaper and to do repair you will need to repalce it anyhow...Once full carefully look everything over to find where the leak is.Also make sure that the drivebelt is there. (from what you said, likely it is) If it's water pump, you will see coolant running out from under the pulley. Once you have looked everything over, if you have not found leak, start engine and close the cap...look again...as pressure builds, small leaks will become more obvious. If you don't find leak, remove the thermostat and change it.
After changing stat, if problem persists, it's likely that you have either a plugged radiator or an internal engine gasket problem. If you have any auxiliary electric cooling fans, make sure they are working and also check the fan clutch on the mechanical fan (it should not excessively freewheel when hot). Whole testing, any time you replace the radiator cap you must allow engine to cool down before removing it again. Watch temp gauge while testing...don't allow engine to overheat.
