Question about 1983 Subaru Brat
She died and will not start, we have a spark, took fuel line off of filter and turned the engine over and no gas, no she is not out of gas, we put gas in just in case the gage was wrong, looks like the fuel pump which I know is in the fuel tank, is there a relay or switch of fusible link that could be bad and can be easily checked before I drop the tank to find out it was something else? Thanks in advance.
I have a 1982, just replaced the fuel pump and both filters - solved mine. Fuel pump located forward of the fuel tank on driver's side just ahead of rear wheel. One thing that was a problem with these models is the hose materials themselves. If you haven't replaced hoses - do so - the new fuels with 10% ethanol tend to cause internal "warping" of the hoses that creates restriction. Also, if the carb hasn't had a kit, the rubber on the accelerator pump could be bad. For the 82 and 83 model Brat, finding the right fuel pump can be a problem - look for the 84 model and swap your electrical plug for the one on it - works great.

It could be the solenoid.I believe its separate from the starter on other Subarus & Brats of that year.

Before you drop the tank if its not to late i think the fuel pump isnt in the tank on this model.it should be next to the tank on the passenger side.just above the back wheel.also i think they are 2 fuel filters also on this vehicle one is on the firewall and the otherone is located right beside the fuel pump where i just described i hope this helps thanks jeff
