If it is kicking down too soon into passing gear you have to adjust it out, if you can floor it and it won't kick down then you have to tighten it. Could be a couple different ways, but probably on the bracket that holds it and the throttle cables is two nuts that can used to let it in or out. If is a stationary mount, they do sell after market kick down cables, or you can modify yout self. I've seen many old trucks with a cable that "stretched out". Bracket bent, or the spring gave out on the mount and the cable is now long, use a small nut, and bolt in the front of the cable hook up to make it shorter. Just use a lock washer if ou do this.

ok so they way the shop told me and i have done it is have a second person to help u have then press on the gas peddle intill it goes to the floor and hold it and then you gotta use the kickdown cable adjuster tabe it is located on the side of it you may need a screw driver to press the tab in you will not your fare a nuff when the kickdown cable sides up what you do then is you stay on the tab and you side the tab back to the cab of the truck or car intill the kickdown cable is tight as can be if you have any slack in it you can burn up your 700r4 transmission and then take it for a test drive if your shift points are about 15 to 20 mph going into second and 26-32 third and about 42-48 forth then it is right if you still dont think it is right take it to a transmission shop and ask them to show you

86 Chevy pick up c-10 with a 350 turbo transmission shifts only once and won't shift in to higher gear. Tried manually shifting and does the same only shift once

Sounds like the clutches for the direct drive drum are shot. Either have it rebuilt or replaced, but make sure whomever installs it knows how to set up the detent cable or it will burn itself up again within a few miles.

How do I adjust detent cable on my 1979 Chevy c 10?

There is a lock on the end of the cable that goes to the carburetor. You have to depress the lock which is usually stainless steel in color. After you release the cable lock, pull the cable case backward. You then get in the vehicle and step on the accelerator with force. This will set the cable. To make the vehicle shift sooner, move the cable case at the carburetor forward. To shift later, press that lock again and pull it backward. The adjustment is quite sensative so only move the cable case a click or 2 in either direction.

2002 chevy 2500hd won't engage in reverse and ony drives in neutra posistion

It may be the shifting cable is split or out of adjustment. You can check this by going under the truck and disconnection the cable at the lever and seeing if you can shift it through all six detents [ park- reverse- neutral- drive- second- first ], The truck shouldn't be running and the wheels blocked. If it moves through all the stops, then it's the cable.

Hello
First check and verify the Detent cable is hooked up and not broken or disconnected. Have you done that? if so then you will need to adjust the cable. Below is a link to a how to page on the whole procedure.

It is located on linkage on throttle body.ene cable is throttle cable, one is cruise if equipped, and the other one will run to the transmission. It has a button you mash to adjust. It isn't obvious but you can get a screw driver and mash release/button and adjust. called detent cable.

See if the tranny has an exterior modulator valve. If so remove the vacuum line and see if there is tranny fluid in the line. It will be located on the pasenger side rear of the tranny. What's happening is the engine is sucking tranny fluid through the vacuum line directly into the intake and it doesn't burn well.

Transmission wont shift

check the kickdown/throttle valve cable. It may be bound up and stuck in the maximum position giving you extremely late shifts.

There ISN"T any modulators or vac lines on any Chrysler automatics
