Re: 1994 altima failed emmision for co
Change the oil, this should lower it enough to get you through, also run the car on the freeway if possible to heat up the catalytic converter as much as possible, leave it running and wait for the test to be run, I was a smog tech for years and these are the tricks I used to get cars to pass that were as close to the limit as yours.

HC is raw or un burnt fuel. CO is incomplete combustion meaning the air fuel is burnt but not burnt completely. check O2 sensors for operation, fuel pressure, gas in oil or how long has it been since an oil change. check engine timing, dirty injectors. when was the last time a tune-up was done plug/wire condition is the air filter clean. just some things to check
could be a slight air leak on the exhaust like a small rust hole and its drawing in the air ,the proper way is to put a probe up the tailpipe but without knowing what the results were its very difficult to diagnose ,was it too high on O2 as this signifies a hole in the exhaust ,was it too high on CO or CO2 ,You see our test is every year on vehicles over ten years of age and it also includes a mechanical test as well but the emmisions is done with a probe not the OBDII as very few europeon vehicles can be read via the OBDII as they nearly all use encrypted software now from 2005 .
