How to reset codes on security system on a 1999 Chysler Sebring
My car has been acting up. Sometimes it will start and sometimes it won't. I took it to all of the local machanics and the problem will not show up on their computer. I did have issues with the security system before and my husband silenced it, but did not fully disarm arm it. I think that may be the issue. Please help!

Check to see if security light on dash is on after turning key to on/start position and letting dash lights run dianosis.(after 10 to 15 seconds). Pontiac uses a security theft system which shuts-down fuel injectors when a different key is used or the Body Control Module thinks the car is being stolen. Pontiac designed this so the owner would have to bring the vehicle back to the dealer. My Grand Am did this and it cost me alot, just to have the dealer reset it.( took them 5 min.) You may have to re-learn the pcm and bcm. It's the same as the dealer re-setting them. The proceedure is (1) turn the key to the on/start position and leave there for 12 minutes.
(2) turn the key to the off position for 30 seconds.
Repeat steps 3 times.
After that the car should start.
I know this is a hassle, but it's a lot cheaper than taking it to the dealer. Hope this helps.
This car is equipped with Passlock antitheft security by GM. You dont have a chip, but there is a transponder in the key head. This system is known to fail. The fact that the security light is on proves the failure of the Passlock and why it wont run. The hard part is finding out which part of the passlock system has failed.
