2003 Mitsubishi outlander air/heat control knob

I see that some other people have had the same issue with not being able to turn the air/heat knob all the way to one side, in order to switch from heat to air(or vice versa). Mine is stuck on air, but it's getting cold out so we need the heat. The mechanics want to charge $900 to fix it, but I think I'll try first. Can you help me out?

My Outlander does the same thing. Its due to a faulty control that bends at a link under the dash. I won't pay the $$ to fix it, either. So this is what I do: If you look under the dash on the driver's side while you turn your dial back and forth, you will see a half-moonish piece of plastic that sits deep in your dash (right above your right shin). If you push that all the way back, you'll have heat. If you pull it forward you'll have cool. Never, of course, do this while driving.

TAKE A PEEK UNDER THE HOOD IN THE FUSE PANEL FOR THE FUSE AND RELAY FOR THE COOLING FAN. IF THE FUSE IS BLOWN THEN REPLACE IT. IF YOU SUSPECT THE RELAY TO BE BAD THEN TEST IT BY SWAPPING THE FAN RELAY WITH ANOTHER ONE WITH THE SAME PINS ON THE BOTTOM. MAKE SURE IT IS THE SAME SIZE AS WELL. HOPE THIS HELPS.. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK

I'm gonna tell you how to pull this drum off, ya ready?First off, get the rear of the vehicle up in the air safely, Then pull the rear tires off. After those are off then take a gander at the face of the drums, are there shiny brass looking screws installed on the face of that drum?Ifso remove those counterclockwise, then, take a hammer a shock the face off the drum firmly about three times. Now, go to the opposite side on the face of the drum and do that again, keep on doin that until you can wiggle the drum off by hand...easy as that, any other questions get back to me. With hot battery, turn all off, wait 10 minutes and then feel of all relays to see if one is warm or hot. Stuck relay can cause this.

2003 mitsubishi outlander temperature control knob would get stuck while turning..and finally snapped off and broke

The source of the problem is not the knob it is the temp blend door binding. Putting to much stress on the knob. If you replace just the control head with the knob it will only break again. You need a dampener repair kit and to install you will have to remove the dash and heater core.this will slow you to access the door that is binding. Hope this was more help then it broke replace it.
