I have the same problem and I can offer a temporary solution until you can get the handle replaced.

Remove the plastic handle guard. (It's simple- just open the screw cover and remove the screw.)

Push in on the rear of the triangular lock with your thumb and the door SHOULD open. At least it works for me.

I'd like to add to this. Because I rarely have backseat passengers, I had my mechanic swap the rear door handle with the broken front door handle so now it works fine.

I also NOW make sure that my door is unlocked before I exit. I only assume that this is important because you will notice that there is very little resistance when you open the door when it is unlocked and there is a bunch of resistance when it is locked. My assumption is that the extra resistance is what ultimately leads to the failure of the inside door handles on the Tribute.

djmerchant has a good solution. I thought the temporary solution was so good I used it long enough to turn it into a permanent solution. However, the outside handle just let loose and I had to remove the door panel. Once the door panel is off you'll see that the inside handle mechanism is held in place with double sided foam tape (adhering the black plastic to the metal of the door frame).

Double sided foam tape should be available at any autoparts or hardware store. Look for a foam with a permanent acrylic adhesive on both side.

    Hope that helps.

Best guess is the linkage (cable) on the inside of the door frame is no longer connected to the inside door handle. You will need to take the door apart, and hook the cable back up on the inside of the door.

There is only one screw holding the door handle in, the screw is right on the inside of the door. Its right above where the door attaches to the door.

2008 ford fusion driver side door will not open from the inside

You will need to remove the door handle, but you may have to pull the door trim plate first. Pull the handle assembly outward and inspect it to make sure the inner door connector rods are attached. These are held in place with plastic pieces, and plastic parts on the door handle. Replace the handle if the rod loop is broken. Replace the door rod ends with new hardware. This can all be done in your driveway, and requires very little mechanical knowledge or skills.

Driver door handle will not open door

Sounds like an internal door machanism not hooked up of working properly. If the door can be opened from the oposite side of door with door opener it is possible that you have something internal broken within the door or you need a new door handle. In order to access this you will have to take your door panel off from the inside. Good luck....

1995 Toyota Corolla Door Handle

My husband (who is a weight lifter) managed to bust our door handles three times during the hot summer months. It was about $35 for the not so fancy handles and installation, I think over $50 for someone to do the fancy painted handle (driver's side door). We had it done since I think at least one of the times, the door would have had to be dismantled.
FYI the Toyota dealer said that in the hot summer months, the door handles were the items ordered the most for Toyotas across the board. We don't live in a hot climate anymore, and havent had any problems with melted/broken handles.

Driver side mirror

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. You can then disconnect the cable running form the mirror to the control. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door
