Question about 1993 Ford Escort 4 Door

1 Answer

1993 Ford Escort

Major electrical issues on my Escort. It has just under 100,000 miles. Melted ignition switch, starter, and wires in between. Mechanic has had it 3+ days and still no idea what caused it. Any ideas or anyone had this problem?

This is a common problem because the ignition switc gets ;oose and in the process could have grounded under the steering column so just repair the wires to the starter motor and instal the new ign switch and you may end up replacing the starter motor also

I wasn't sure what part of the ignition you wanted? Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. The diagram is for ignition switch. The top wires are voltage to ignition switch. The bottom wires are voltage from ignition switch.

1995 ford escort wagon ignition to starter wiring shematics

95 escort, automatic tranny
At the starter motor, two voltage circuits, one comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other voltage circuit goes hot with the key in the crank position and is wired through the neutral switch. The ground for the starter motor is through engine block, grounds are important.

The switch is a rectangle box mounted on the bottom of the steering column.
There is a rod that travels up the column to the key lock.

The MAF(mass airflow sensor) check the connection and make sure there fully seated, they are giving the Escort problem because it has low miles clean the MAF with carburator spray cleaner why because if the sensor element is contaminated it does exactly what you go through,

Check your shifter linkage at the transmission, sounds like a broken or missing bushing once you see the connections there the problem should be visible. Hope this helps, let me know.

1994 Ford Escort, will not start. i have replaced the starter, starter relay, and battery. the car still will not start. please help.

hi,
set the parking brake and make sure its in neutral then
try to bypass the ignition switch by jumping the starter relay under the hood. take the small wire off the relay and use a 2 foot piece of wire to go from the positive battery terminal to the terminal on the starter relay you just unplugged. if it turns over and if its a manual transmission the clutch pedal interlock switch may be busted, on the clutch pedal theres a small switch that senses the pedal is to the floor and it wont start. you can try to bypass that with a simple jumper wire. lastly if neither of those do it then you may have to drop the steering column and put a new ignition switch in it.

I have a problem with my ford escort 1995 it wont start i replase the batery for a new one and i replase tht startmotor but stil wont start can some one help me please

It can only be either the ignition swith or a broken wire between ig switch and starter solenoid, if you take off the plastic bezel around switch I think the starter sol wire is white with red trace,.with a lengh of wire from the pos on battery, touch to starter wire at switch, if it then turns engine over, the fault is switch. If not check other end of starter wire where it connects to starter solenoid on starter

is the earth cable giving a good engine and body contact.does your starter have two terminals and if so are they the right way around?is the battery any good?Is the engine able to be turned over by hand Make sure you have agood 12v supply to the starter solenoid when cranking the engine An engine test probe/light would be of a lot of use for you to do that test
