I would like to check out the clock in the top part of the dashboard to find out why it is not working.
Like most items in the dash of the car, it is necessary to remove the front fascia cover to get at anything.
Any dashboard work is basically done in layers from the top down (outside in)
So you have to remove the front fascia (usually a series of a few hex head screws in lower areas, the spring clips holding on the rest)
Once that fascia is off, you may need to remove other components (like the radio etc) to be able to work your way up to it.
Keep track of where things go as you pull them out, to be able to reassemble it.
And take your time. A camera shot of the steps also helps.
1. lift upon the cover on the center arm console. 2. It starts here, pull UP on the cover/panel over the "parking break" releasing all the holding clips, pull the cover off/over the parking break and set to the side, 3. The next panel to come off is the one over the gear ship (you are now working your way up towards the clock), again gently release all the holding clips, 4. Remove the ashtray, 5. From the bottom of the clock/climate control/entertainment console pull away from the bottom going up, again gently releasing all the holdling clips.
There are 2 screws on right under the fan controls. unscrew them. then you can pull of the entire piece that surrounds the cd player/fan control/radio. pull it from the bottom. then pull the piece off that is on top of the clock. pull towards you. there will be 2 screws exposed that will allow you to unscrew the clock. ive got an 02 eclipse but i dont think its any different. hope that helped
I guess you are talking about the lock symbol on the dashboard.
Its normally with the security system of the car.
If its just on or flashes all the time, then the security system has some problem ...
If it comes on and then turns off when you start the car, then its normal.
:)
IF the clock is blank, check if its getting power, try pressing both of the buttons on the clock or if it has one, should react somehow. I think you need to open up the dashboard to get to the clock.
I don't have spesific instructions on how to open up the dashboard.. I will look into this lets see if I can get my hands on clear cut instructions.
A repair manual would be the best choice

How do I get to the backside of the clock on the Daihatsu Charade's dashboard to check out the wires/remove the clock for repair?
Daihatsu Charade CS 1993 Automatic;
There is a digital oblong clock on the top part of the dashboard slightly right of the center. The clock does not work. I would like to check its rear side to see maybe wire are off or be able to remove the clock for repair. How do I get in there?
Daihatsu Charade Hatchback model CS MY 1993 1.3 engine. The car was sold in the Middle East (i.e. probably the "Asian" model).
There is a digital oblong clock embeded in the top part of the dashboard's upper surface. (On the dashboard's top cover) The clock does not work. I would like to get to it to see if wires are loose or to remove it and try to fix or replace it. How do I do it? All answers hitherto are wrong or refer to parts of a car which I do not have.
