Sounds like the neutral safety switch is faulty. The engine should not start with the trans. in gear. It seems as though the neutral switch is not disengaging when the engine is running and then put in gear.

In addition, this could be a module fault. I would disconnect the battery for a few hours to reset the module memories. Reconnect and start the car and see if it still occurs. If so, you need to see if you can bypass the neutral switch temporarily and see if it allows you to go into gear. Otherwise, you need to plug in a diagnostic tool and see what error codes, if any, are being displayed. It doesn't sound like a shift solenoid issue, it sounds as though the neutral switch is faulty.

good luck.

Have a mazda 626 98' when i start up my car it's fine but when i take off about a mile or mile1/2 its starts to shifts like a jerking, almost like it wants to come out of gear, there is no noise before

I assume since you mentioned the throw out bearing it is a standard. It could be a clutch issue but it sounds more like the transmission is low or dry on fluid. Even a Standard has fluid for cooling and lubrication. In an automatic low fluid will cause shifting problems in a standard it's not so much shifting problems as it is wear on the gears and slipping.

Yes the automatic transmission does not engage any more, i just revs as high as it could. is it advisable to change it at this piont to a manual transmission.

Yes, it can be converted to a manual, but it takes a lot of work and some fabrication...The CD4E was used in all 2.0 626's from '94 to '02...The secret to keeping these transmissions healthy is by running a trans cooler and changing the fluid every 20k or less if you are heavy footed...otherwise it eats them....i hope this helps.

I have a 98 626 mazd which is currently not catching reverse and when i drive it is not going past 30 mph. The car actually reverses when it is cold and all other gears engage, it is just when the car...

the first thing I would try is a transmission flush then add Lucas additive, it may take a day or two to notice any change. Have a look at your transmission fluid, it should not be dark or black and should not stink. This is the cheapest first thing to do. A flush is normally around $100 and Lucas is about $20. The reason I suggest this is because the problem starts after it is warm.

Transmission hesitates going in drive. shifts fine, does not slip, full of oil. does not hesitate in reverse. 1995 mazda 626, auto. transmission, 4 cylinder, front wheel drive.

A common problem with Mazdas, it's a sign that the transmission is worn out. There is a seal on a hydraulic system that activates the clutch for Drive. When this seal wears out, it leaks and it takes longer for the clutch to engage. The only way to repair it is to take the transmission apart. You may be told to try flushing the the transmission, chances are this won't work. The seal needs to be replaced.

if the 5spd engine is still good, you have to buy a manual transmission for that engine.

98 Mazda 626 Won't Crank, Won't Jumpstart, no power on anything

Either one of your cables isn't getting a good enought contact on the battery or solenoid, or the solenoid is bad, or relay for starter is bad.
