Question about 1997 Chevrolet Suburban
My truck keeps cutting off after it starts or after i drive it down the road about a mile. I loose all brakes/power steering. It can get very dangerous. It only happens when i start her for the first time. (she just cut off.) I put in 2new batteries, glow plugs, belts, alternator, vaccum pump, clean all connections. Still cuts off while running.Put it on a computer, does not read any inconsistant problems. I"m Lost.
I am an apprentice and could not guarantee this is your solution but i have seen this problem more then once and all three times it has resulted in replacing the injector pump! this is very costly but a known problem for the 6.5L.The first thing i would do is pick up a good quality fuel filter. Replacing it is very easy and will never hurt! Just remove the grey cover that says 6.5L on the top of the engine, there will be a housing (that looks not much bigger then the new filter you picked up) using filter pliers (or by hand if not to tight) remove the threaded retainer ring and housing cover. Inside you will see fuel (diesel) and the filter. Simply remove the old one and replace with the new one. Ensure no dirt or debris gets inside, clean the cover and put it all back together! This is a great place to start because it is very inexpensive and easy to do!
