Question about 1995 Dodge Ram

1996 Dodge Ram 3.9L Pick up Steering Shudder

I have a shudder coming from my steering a low speed while turning the steering wheel. I can see the power steering box shake, but don't know if it is the pump or the steering gear. Anyway the trouble shoot it and know before I change out the pump or the steering gear box? Should I change out both? Will flushing the fluid help?

You could have air in the system. first try an fill the resevoir to a proper level then with engine running turn steering wheel all the way to the left until it squeals, then to the right till it squeals. repeat this several times if this doesn't cure the problem change the pump only I seriously don't that the gearbox is bad. please rate this

steering problems at speed is attributable to incorrect wheel alignment from worn suspension and steering assemblies. Have the front end checked out and have a wheel alignment done as it is most likely a castor wobble ( negative castor angle from sagged springs )

I have an 07 buick rendezvous only 27000 miles on it has a shudder in the steering when turning right in reverse or when stoped

When in the position that the shudder occurs check underneath to see if the steerin has hit the full turn bolt or is still a bit to go as it sounds as if the steering has run out of travel and the pump is still trying to turn the wheels further. There will be a bolt on either suspension arm that limits the amount of turn left or right. Any way with the low milage I would be taking it back to the dealer and having them fix it (under warranty)as steering problems are critical for safety.

Hi there,
It could be your power steering pump. Have you put fluid in your pump lately? Try that. I hope this helps you. Let me know. Have a great day.~MWD
