1999 Jeep Gr Chr. 4.0l - starter problem, or problem starting

I saw your reply to a similar question w/ a jeep and wanted to see if you could he me at all. I've had the Jeep for nearly two years now and this is the first time it's done this. It has full battery power, all the guages come on, but it won't " start ", it just drags on and on...Do you think it's the solinoid ( sp? ) problem as you suggested for that other jeep on Aug. 31st, 2008? Please let me know. Thanks.

Got a very similar problem. 1999 Grand Cherokee with 4.0 6 cyl. Good battery, clean cable connections, all lights work/come on when you turn key but, when you turn the key to the start position everything just goes dead. But, sometimes it just starts normally, and sometimes if you keep turning the key to start, over and over and over, it will start. Sometimes, if you remove the positive cable it will start, and sometimes it will not. The problem has been getting worse over last two months. When the car was nearly new, about a year old, it did something similar, and, I think, the dealer said it had something to do with the fuel pressure, but I can't remember for sure. Any help out there?

Try lightly hitting the starter with a hammer while trying to start the car.
If it starts then you need a stater.
But wait, you said it drags on and on.
Does this mean the engine is turning over?
If you reply yes to that question than replace the crank sensor on the transmission bell housing to start wirh.

I just bought a 2000 Gr.Chr.Ltd without an owners book and the turn signals quit.I suspect it is a fuse but I CANNOT find the fuse box. Will someone please tell this idiot where it is?

Hello hawki55
The fuse block is located behind the left side of dash left of the steering
colum. The power distribution block is under the hood near the battery.
Hope this helps.

Jeep starts sluggish and then wants to die

It is most likely from that actually. You may need to adjust the air / fuel mixture after modding the intake. Sounds like its getting too much air.

I'm experieince intermittent starting . One day the jeep will crank & start, the next day when I attempt to start it I get nothing.

Its the starter solenoid. Remove 2 bolts and the lead wire and pull the starter out. most local parts stores can test the starter for you, but if the problem is intermittent it might not show up during their test.

On my jeep, after pulling the starter, I disassembled the solenoid. The actual failure of the solenoid was the electrical contact. I cleaned off the corrosion and have had no problems for 40,000 miles.

2.5 jeep wangler 1999 wont start .starter checks out ok

Could be a bad connection between the battery and starter. Starter solenoid, or neutral safety switch if it is standard transmission.
Check for power at the solenoid.

It sure sounds like a starter solenoid issue, they act just like that, had exactly the same concern on my car, no crank just clicks under hood, new starter solenoid contacts cured the problem. I don't know if your solenoid is rebuild-able or not, I think it is a Japanese starter so most likely it is.
