P1289 - Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) Sensor Circuit High Input (PCM STRATEGIES 1999 AND BEYOND)
Indicates a CHT sensor circuit malfunction (open).
Open circuit in CHT harness
Damaged CHT sensor
Improper harness connection
Damaged PCM
Using signal simulation, disconnect sensor and simulate a voltage on sensor signal circuit. Simulated 1.0V signal and scan PID voltage value should be similar. If voltage is similar check sensor, if voltage is not similar check related circuit and PCM. Note: DTC P0118 may also be reported, this will activate the MIL light.
p0010 Replace the cam shaft actuator. I suggest you replace both sides.
p0119. Check the wires for the coolant sensor and or replace the sensor. Intermittent.
p1289 is for the head temperature. Could be the same for coolant, but they could have the same power and grounds. You may have to check further back in the wiring harness.
Hello-
Attached is a link that highlights the possible causes and resolution for a P1289 engine code. Hope you find this helpful in determining the cause of this situation. P1289 Cylinder Head Temp Sensor High Input
Head temperature sensor. Either the sensor is bad or you blew a head gasket. Since you indicate that the fans run on start up it is most likely the sensor.
have a 2004 ford f150 with a 5.4L. While the truck would sit and idle my temp gauge would go to zero and the check gauge and check engine light would come on. Ran the codes and got P1289. Cleared the codes and truck would do fine for a few days and then it would happen again while sitting and idling. I replaced the CHT sensor and cranked the truck. The check gauge light can on and got the P1289 code. Replaced the CHT again(thinking the new one was bad) and cleared the codes. Cranked the truck again and it did the same thing. Cleared the codes and the check gauge light and check engine light would come back on with the motor running. When the motor is warmed up, I turned on the key on without cranking the motor, the temp gauge works, when the motor is cranked and running, the temp gauge goes to zero and the the ckeck gauge light on back on and gives the P1289 code. Does any one have any ideas on what to do
truck won't start
