Fuel trim short term 1 or 3 plus p0401 insufficient exhaust flow

The PO401 you can Google
It is an EGR Issue
The fuel trim could be vacuum leaks, oxygen sensor
issue,cylinder ignition misfires.
Once you resolve the Egr System problem, you continue on
with your testing. Insufficient flow means you have less exhaust
gas re-entering the intake, than you should have,so I would say
you have two or more issues

I AM CONTEMPLATING ON BUYING A TOYOTA FOR $2500... it has 2 test codes that i know of a P0773 and P0401...it has 205192 Miles..is it worth buying....and how much should i ask for???

The P0773 is a transmission code. With 205K you will most likely need a trans. ($400 to $600 from yard). The P0401 is an egr issue. EGR is usually straight forward fix. The car is probably worth $2500 w/out the trans problem.

My 2003 chevy impal idles very high an i found 3 codes that are p0113,p0401,p1639,can anyone help me understand whats going on

p1639 is low a/c refrig. so that's not it. p0113 is low intake air temp. which is telling the computer its -38 f. This can cause the idle to be raised. and p0401 is EGR flow test failed.
Can you post what motor this has 3.8 liter or the 3.4 liter. This is something that we need to know.

Check engine light stays on the code that keeps coming up is P0401 changed egr valve clened out carbon build up also smell gas when first start not driving and fuel millage not as good car runs good though...

Could be a EGR vacuum issue or temp sensor issue

Common Problems That Trigger the P0401 Code
  • Restriction in the EGR passages, usually caused by carbon buildup
  • Lack of a proper vacuum signal to the EGR Valve from EGR Vacuum Solenoid
  • EGR Vacuum Modulator is defective
  • EGR Temperature Sensor is defective
  • EGR Valve is defective

Whats does code P0401 mean ??

Hi,

P0401 means insuffient EGR flow:

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation, which basically sends some of the exhaust back into the engine cylinder again. Your error means that there isn't enough of the exhaust gas making it back to the intake manifold.
The first thing I'd check is the tubes coming off of the EGR valve to make sure they aren't clogged or broken. Then I'd check the EGR valve itself and the throttle body. The problem is usually:
1.) Carbon buildup causing a clogging.
2.) Broken hoses.
3.) Broken Valve.

Best regards.
