Once you remove the bolts, you have to pull it straight back, but it takes a lot of force sometimes.

Open the back hatch and there are two screws. Take them out and you will have the lamp off.

How do I pop the tail light off on a 2002 Nissan Xterra to change the bulb?

remove the two visble 10 mm screws.

Do not use any tools trying to pry the assembly out.

Just use your hands and you will not break anything.

Using your two hands, pull towards you firmly shaking the assembly and it will come out.

thode screws hold the lens or the light assembly? Allow for the whole tail light to come out and the bulb plug will be accessible. I never had the privilage. But how the lens fits will tell you. If the lens goes overthe edges, the whole unit comes out, lens is sealed. Good luck

I just changed out a tailight on my 2000 Nissan Xterra, so I assume it may be similar. You have to pop the plastic strip which runs across the back. There are pop rivits in it.

There are 2 screws on the hatch side, remove them and on the "outside" or body side of the lamp there are 2 studs on the back of the lamp that push into female clips in the body, so you should just be able to gently pry the lense assembly out. I use two screwdrivers. They snap loudly when they come out and also snap loudly when you are putting it back on. Make sure you push hard enough to hear the snap.
