My 2001 jetta stalls when comming to a stop but runns fine while going

When I come to a stop or slow down the rpm's drop and my car stalls out. While it is going it runs great. Sometimes when startimg it it has a hard time staying on and even has a hard time going when I give it gas.

I have the same problem. It happens most often when I put it into gear too soon after starting it up, and then it stalls when I let off the gas and come to a stop. After driving for a bit, it's fine though. Any ideas?

My 2001 Automatic Jetta TDI runs rough when slowing and stopping. Making a loud almost grinding noise. It clunks to a stop. Acceleation is also rough until above 20 to 30 MPH. Once up to speed runs smooth. It was seeming like a tranmission problem. However the newest symtom is stalling in reverse. Engine problem? Fuel Problem? Air? I have no idea.

sounds like an IAC motor. that stands for idle air control motor. it adjusts throttle to keep at steady speed. could possibly be throttle positioning sensor though. pay attention to see if it does it worse while mashing breaks because if EGR is stopped up it can cause symptoms similar too.

The problem in the Jetta could very well be with the ignition coil. I had the same problem for a long time and tried the usual replacing plugs, wires, etc, but nothing seemed to work.

It ended up being the ignition coil which over time, managed to sustain very small cracks. Even a small amount of moisture would cause all sorts of problems.

I replaced the ignition coil and had no problems after that.

Check for cracked vacuum hoses in your engine bay. Especially on your intake manifold.

Car running rough at random when accelerating and also idle drops suddenly when slowing down and often completely stalls out when I stop. Smells strongly of gasoline when it stalls/almost stalls but I

This could be a lot of things. one of the tests that you need to run is shift it into nuetral when you are stopping and see if it still drops RPM and wants to stall. This will eliminate or conclude that it is a transmission issue. If it is still doing this then it could be a vacuum leak or fuel delivery issue.

Why does my pontiac stall out when I am slowing down to stop?

Probably need to set the idle a bit higher. That keeps the RPM of the motor high enough that it won't stall when you come to a stop.

Check your vacuum lines, make sure there is no leaks, and go from there, then all you electrical connection in the engine compartment.
I have a 1996 Jetta Trek Edition, the hoses, and wire harness, are so brittle, any movement can cause hoses and wire insulation to crack.

Slow acceleration, high rpm

This sounds normal to me! The engine will read that rpm when accerlerating lightly. It is the stall of the torque convertor. The oil pressure will always be higher when the rpm's are higher, or when the oil is thicker - cold.

Virbration? That is a different story. Oil won't cause that.

You have a vacume leack, most likly on your PCV valve, or on the intake manifold there are a few rubber hoses that you should check for cracks and or leaks. When you find it go to the part store and buy then replace, you may e-mail me if you have any other questions bharris9@gmail.com
