Just bought a used 2002 chevy s10 crew cab and drove it will trailer in tow this weekend. when I got to my desination over several mountians, the check engine/guages light came on. The oil pressure was...

Normal oil pressure at operating temperature should be around 40 lbs, 30 at an idle. Either you have a bad oil pressure sending unit or you actually have low oil pressure that indicates a serious engine problem.

1998 dodge 3500 check engine comes on

have the engine oil pressure checked with a mechanical guage, if it is about 15 PSI hot replace the sending unit for the guage, u will need to buy a special deep oil pressure sending unit socket for this job, they are made by KD and Lisle tools, they can be bought at NAPA.

Low oil pressure

Just guessing, but it sounds like you are loosing pressure from the bearings.....If you had the crankshaft journals cut, or if they were slightly out of round to begin with, this can happen. Cutting removes material...the journals on most modern engines are too thin to do this (same weight saving idea that gave us rotors that you need to throw away) After cutting, they go egg shaped. Not cutting and starting with out of round condition will essentially give you the same problem but may take a bit longer to fail.
Of course, check all clearances and sealing points, but I believe that's where you will find the problem.

1998 toyota camry,4,cylinder, 5 speed

it sounds like your oil pressure sending unit may be plugged by whatever took your pressure down to 5-8 psi the first time. this is extremely low pressure as i am sure you know but at 30 psi your light should go off i would replace the sending unit if your oil pressure is holding 30

Flashig oil light

You either have a loose/worn engine bearing or a worn out oil pump, do not drive the car this way, you will cause serious damage to the whole engine. A oil switch is for a light, it turns on the light when oil pressure falls below about 10 PSI, a sending unit is for a guage that shows oil pressure with a scale, it may have numbers on the guage or just green and red, or high and low.

Oil light

You have low oil pressure, either due to a bad oil pump or worn engine bearings such as rods, crank. do you have any engine noise yet?
Buy a mechanical tester oil guage and test the pressure, it should be over 20 PSI at idle, the light is triggered at or below 10 PSI I believe.
