Question about 2001 Chevrolet S-10
We have 2 quad cab s.10's. One is a 2002 with 180000 miles the other a 2004 with 100000 miles. Both are acting the same. Try to gun it off the line and they only rev up to 2000 rpm almost as if a governor will not let them rev higher. both have sufficient fuel pressure at 55psi and we have already changed the catalytic converter in one of them to no avail. Does anyone have a potential solution?
Thanks for your time
There are several things that could be the problem. since you did not specify a scanner code, it seems to be that more air than fuel is being dispensed. for that reason it coulud be the MAF sensor. (Mass Airflow Sensor) or the MAP sensor (Manifold absolute pressure). Or it can also be dirty fuel injectors. You can vlean them with a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. You just pour it into the fuel tank. You will have to run the engine a while for it to clean up the injectors. Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve) or as suggested by getdean, a weak ignition coil. Also wet or cracked plugs wires. you shoulkd have it scanned. And get a code.PO171, PO174 indicate more air than fuel.
