Question about 2001 Chevrolet S-10

1 Answer

Late model s.10 no power.

We have 2 quad cab s.10's. One is a 2002 with 180000 miles the other a 2004 with 100000 miles. Both are acting the same. Try to gun it off the line and they only rev up to 2000 rpm almost as if a governor will not let them rev higher. both have sufficient fuel pressure at 55psi and we have already changed the catalytic converter in one of them to no avail. Does anyone have a potential solution?
Thanks for your time

2001 s-10, no RPM above 2000. dist cap, rotor, ckp,cmp sensor replaced and fuel injection assy replaced. Same problem. I have hooked up an engine analyzer to it, I am suspecting weak coil output, COIL output is no more that 12KV at idle or under load. Will try a coil tomorrow.

There are several things that could be the problem. since you did not specify a scanner code, it seems to be that more air than fuel is being dispensed. for that reason it coulud be the MAF sensor. (Mass Airflow Sensor) or the MAP sensor (Manifold absolute pressure). Or it can also be dirty fuel injectors. You can vlean them with a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. You just pour it into the fuel tank. You will have to run the engine a while for it to clean up the injectors. Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve) or as suggested by getdean, a weak ignition coil. Also wet or cracked plugs wires. you shoulkd have it scanned. And get a code.PO171, PO174 indicate more air than fuel.

I have a 2000 dodge 3500 Cummins with a 6 speed regular cab. I want to put a 2000, 3500 quad cab on it that had a V 10 with auto trans. Will the wiring harness's be the same.

No, they will not. The engine wiring harness will be different if for no other reason than the V10. Also, the wheelbase of the quad cab is 14 inches longer the regular cab. Have you taken that into consideration?

low fuel pressure doesn't set a fault code nor does a clogged catalytic convertor. Dodge vehicles don't have a serviceable fuel filter, but you can do a fuel volume test when the vehicle acts up.

I was driving my 2000 dodge dakota quad cab, and all the sudden it bucks acts like it wants to die ,maybe out of gas . The fuel gage says 1/2 a tank. I go in the store and come out try to start it , it act...

"Keep a spare gas cap" sounds to me like the fuel pump is failing or some fool has fitted it the wrong way, the pressure will build up in the tank and pop the cap off. I would look at the fuel relay and check all the wireing to the fuel pump as this sounds like someone has been tampering with the fuel system, most commonly why is because the fuel pump can cost around $500 to $1000.

Is this a gas version or a diesel version, plaese calify.

Your next step is to check for power and ground at the fuel pump. If there is power when you crank and the ground circuit is good than you will need to replace the fuel pump.

No the pump and fuel filter in tank is what is causing the problem. You either have a partical restriction in the fuel filter or the pump is not putting out enough pressure to run the truck. hope this will help you.
