Rough idling in motor when in park or stoped in drive

I have taken my truck to dodge house to check the motor, they say nothing is wrong with it. When I have the truck in park or when stop in drive the motor is idling very rough you can see the truck shaking. Last night I got out of the truck while it was runing and you can hear the noise through the tail pipe. I sounds like it is missing it is getting worse it almost sounds like it is loosing compression.

I'm having a similar problem. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 liter V8. When I come to a stop the trucks rpm drop down and "lope" up and down or sometimes even stalls out. If it doesnt' stall out it will lunge forward a bit. I've replaced the Throttle Position Sensor as well as the spark plugs. Neither of those worked. I'm confused because my check engine light is not on so I can't get a code from the odometer. There's 95000 Kms on this truck, anyone have any idea's.

Hi guys
I have all of you guys problems for roughly a year and half. Last week i decided to solve the problems. 1st i did all the electrical check (spark plugs and coil packs) it was find. 2nd i did the fuel injections (it may be bad and stuck at open) it was good. 3rd i did the compression check and the #6 cylinder was bad, it only got 60psi instead of 180. Finally i removed the valve cover and found the problem, the INTAKE VALVE SPRING BROKE. The reason why the truck was still able to drive with all of you guys problems is that the valve spring broke at the bottom (1st loop from the bottom). Even though the spring broke it was still strong enough to create some compression pressure in term no engine light.

I am currently driving a 2007 1500 fleet vehicle with the same 4.7 V8. Excellent engine, good fuel economey, and well running - except : exactly like your engine, it begins to miss after at idle for more than a few minutes. Learned to accept this - does not seem to hurt anything.

it is possible that you may have had a sensor malfunction in one of your main systems. These sensors are there to put your engine into "limp in mode" so as not to cause more damage to the engine but yet allow it to be taken safely off the road and/or to your mechanic.

Why would 2000 Dodge Stratus have rough idle, die, and now won't start anymore?

The oil change was not done correctly, The filter was not tightened sufficiently so it leaked out and contacted hot engine parts, resulting in the smoke. The lack of oil in the engine may have damaged it.

Engine idling rough on park and rear gear

There is no TSBs for rough idle and the term rough idle can be taken two ways one is like a vibrating idle which is motor mounts wore out. The other is a slight miss in engine and there are are quit a few reasons fot that but the most comon reason is a vacuum leak. But the way you described you problem park and reverse I leaning more torwards a bad motor mount due to a vaccum leak would also do it in drive.

2003 Dodge Neon Code P0551 and Rough Idle

This is either the sensor or an open/shorted circuit leading to the sensor, you need to use a dvom to check it or replace the sensor and atleast eliminate that fault

Rough idle

Mercury had a recall on 3.0 duratech motors in 2000 and 2001. If you get a fuel smell at startup then you might have a bad lower intake gasket, it could cause a miss if seal is cracked. Article No. 01-4-3 you can get it on AllData.

Also, check the PC rubber L piece that runs from the PVC valve to under the throttle control - it could be busted.

Make sure ignition wires are not cracked. If you haven't tuned it up in over 30-40K consider doing that.

My durango shutts off???

Remove your A I S / I.A.C. motor on the throttle body, and clean it up good with throttle body cleaner. Make sure you spray good inside the port that it came out of too. Re--install & see if improvement. That Automatic Idle Speed ( A.I.S.) motor regulates the idle up & down according to different loads on the engine to eliminate stalling, such as when a/c turned on, brakes applied, steering turned, etc, anything that puts a load on your engine. If that works good for a while, then starts to act up again, replace it.

your probably feeling a rough idle of the engine. need a tune up?

in park the engine is not loaded down, just idling at a low rpm=rough
in drive with brake on you have put some load on motor also at low rpm=rough
in drive on the road engine is at higher rpm, = smoother

generally 4 cylinder motors idle a bit rough, especially if one spark plug is not firing right or fouled or one bad spark plug wire. tune up may fix it. if it is not stumbling real bad or stalling then you can live with it.

91 Dodge ram 50 ignition problem, rough idle in drive, dies when braking

my ram 50 starts just like any other vehicle, (no light switch pulling whatso ever), it sounds like somebody haas rewired something wrong or you have a loose connection and when you hit a large enough bump it cuts your power. Start it up and find a speed bump somewhere and drive over it enough to give your truck a jolt and see if it dies.
