Question about 1996 BMW 318

1 Answer

Not your typical brake light problem...

So the brake lights are not working... The tail lights and reverse lights are fine but the brake light don't want to be fixed. So far, I've checked the bulbs (fine), the bulb casing (fine and clean), the fuses (fine), and changed the brake light switch... Nothing. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

All three lights are not coming on. I checked bulbs and fuses. I was told the brake light switch could be bad. I don't know where it's located.

Hello what i would do first disconnect the wires off the brake light switch test the power wire to make sure you have power to the switch if you do contact them to bypass the switch completely test see if your lights are lit if not i would trace the wiring back to the sockets contacts inside might be corroded or wires in the socket are not contacting the metal tab or broken at the crimp they sell replacement sockets you can splice into the harness if you dont have power at the break light wires you need to trace wires back to fuse panel first check to make sure there is not a secondary fuse box under your hood usually on drivers side near the strut tower usally says fuses goodluck please rate

My brake lights work but my tail lights and reverse lights don't work. Also my dash lights quit when I changed the switch for my headlights.

Check your fuses. I had the same problem with a 90 Honda civic. Dash lights went out, tail lights also went out. Replaced 1 fuse and all came back on.

2002 Toyota highlander passenger brake light not working

RE: 2002 Toyota Highlander 2.4cyl. 4X4 Base Model

I am a Certified Technician and have basic knowledge with electronics in electrical wiring. I searched the web and discovered this is a common problem.

I fixed the problem and it was a simple procedure... The problem is with the reverse light socket at the side with no brake light. This socket functions as a hub to direct current to the brake bulbs.

Remove reverse light socket and re-seat bulb. Check for loose or broken prongs. Replace if necessary.

Swap the reverse socket with the other side.
