Codes P1433 and P1600 on Civic Hybrid

My 2005 Civic Hybrid has the same codes. My check engine and IMA lights are on, but the car is running OK.

Did you resolve your problem? Can you tell me what you did?

Thanks,

John

It turned out to be a failed IMA battery. Honda covered it under warranty, even though the car has a salvaged title, because it is part of the emissions system. A $3000 repair otherwise!

Those codes are thrown when there is a momentary hicup in the electrical delivery from the battery pack. clear the codes and drive it, if they dont come back you are all good, it they do come back then you most likely have a corrosion issue between the battery monitor system and the battery

I had to call Honda Corporate to get them to replace my battery pack. They refused because of my salvaged title. However, the battery pack is part of the safety system and as such overrides the salvaged title, as all safety recalls do. So here we are 5 years later - and the codes are back. I borrowed a handheld code reader from a friend and cleared the codes, but the IMA and Check Engine lights came back up the 2nd time I started it. I am an electrical engineer and am tempted to tear into the battery pack myself. The reader identified the faulty cell.

The good news is, the 2005 Civic runs just fine (and gets almost the same 30 MPG) with this issue. Every model year after is not driveable if this happens. The real issue is getting it smogged next year! Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Engine code P1600 and P1449

Hi:

The P1600 code is usually a IMA fault, and the P1449 code is a battery deviation fault.
Both are usually early warning of some sort of hybrid battery issues.
You need to have a system tech give the hybrid system a good look over, but most likely your IMA battery pack is most likely suspect

Engine code P1600 and P1449 what do they mean?

P1600 IMA system malfunction. A P1600 code is a generic code that is set in the engine computer to tell you that there is a Hybrid system problem. In order to find out what is wrong with the Hybrid system, you will need to take the vehicle to a Honda dealer so that they can read the code in that system.
P1449 Battery module, battery module deterioration, battery module overheating, battery cell overheating. Either way you need to take the car to a Honda dealership to find out the actual cause of the P1600 and replace teh battery module

Honda civic hybrid code p1433 and p1600

The P1600 is a generic OBD II code. It just means that a more specific code (Honda) has been set. To find the specific code you have to take it to the dealer or have a Vetronics Mastertech scan tool to get the actual code. The P1433 indicates thats the the main battery contactor or the by-pass contactor is staying active when it should not. Using an Actron pocket code reader will only read generic OBD II codes. Hope this helps.

Honda 2004 Civic Hybrid IMA light

Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system uses high output electric motor-generator providing more efficient engine operation by capturing electrical energy during braking or deceleration and use of that energy to power the vehicle hence saving valuable fuel. The engine shut off during stops further increases efficiency of the vehicle. This can cause Damage to the Battery System if left UnRepaired for Too Long. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
