hmmm....it would seem as if your trans is having a bit of a hard time shifting so its sort of waiting before it can shift to the next gear (possible the gear system is having a problem shifting due to it sticking to some gears) i'd have to say....a mechanic can take a look to see why its seemingly shifting late at high RPMs to me IMO the trans is just having a hard time shifting with gears wanting to stick together making the whole trans have a hard time shifting
the high rpms can be from a vacuum leak and the hard shifting from a problem vacuum actuator on the transmission
check for a broken missing hose to the transmission
run the fault codes to check for other sensor problems
The shifter needs to be inspected. Its quite possible that The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.
There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this shifting problem occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

You mean you can drive your car but the problem you have hard shifts at high rpms (3500+) . what shift 1 or 2 or 3 ....... and how if your engine cold or hot .
hav u done your needed maintenance like checking oil level-itz done with engine going in park also shift cable needs ajusting or solenoids on the electronic models if alot of miles then a rebilt is posible am tired and its late-try testing the tps sensor 1st has to with shifting***
