It will go into all gears but wont move unless its in overdrive.
The clutch pack selonide has failed, it is leaking.
You said it just stops is engine still running or does it stall out ?
Mostly a torque converter is the prob but maybe be somthing eles please give more details Thanks
It's possible that if your transmission was low enough on fluid this could happen but if you have fluid showing it most likely isn't the problem. For sure top it up if it's low, it may help.if there is no fluid on the dipstick add some until it shows on the stick.Once it shows full, start the truck and pull it through the gears one at a time, including 2 and L. Leave it in each gear for a few seconds and repeat back from L to park. Check the fluid again and top up. Repeat this process until the transmission stays at the full mark.
Two things come to mind, either the pump is bad or the torque converter. If it drives in overdrive that suggests the torque converter may be bad because overdrive locks the torque so the truck drives like a standard. The internal pump runs pressure inside the transmission, normally off the torque converter so if it failed the best you would get out of your gears might be a split second attempt to move the truck. In these cases you will have to take it in for repair. Hope this helps.
The first step with any automatic transmission problem (if you haven't done it already) is to check the fluid level and quality. Inadequate or contaminated transmission fluid may result in shift failure or damage to the transmission. In particular, if the fluid is burned or has metallic particles in it, the transmission probably needs to be torn down and repaired. A clogged filter screen could also cause the problem, but this is rare unless dirt gets in or there is a worn-out part.
If you have to rev up to high rpms to get the vehicle moving, you may have a torque converter problem.
i rolled back in nutral and when i put it in reverse it will kick in gear but its like the emergency brake is pushed cause it just stops.
'... it just stops." Does this mean the engine stalls, or does it mean the vehicle quits moving even though the engine is running when it is in reverse? This is important information.
