Question about 2000 Audi A6

1 Answer

Oil Leak? My car has been sitting in my garage for a while, because I am selling it. Recently, 3 months, I had the timing belt replaced. It was just time to do it. Yesterday, I started my car to run for a little while. I drove it up the street, and back. When I shut off the engine. I noticed smoke coming from the engine. On the drivers side. I see what appears to be a oil leak where the bolts are located near the top of the engine. There isn't any smoke coming out fo the exaust, and all the fluids are full. Any ideas? paul paul80424@gmail.com

It sounds like the person may not have torqued the bolts properly

SOURCE: audi engine oil leak?

Sounds like a leaking valve cover gasket. The parts are around $50 to do both cylinder heads from www.ecstuning.com. It's not a major issue, but it may be a sore point to a potential buyer.

A 2004 vehicle is not an old car, IF you had of
bought it new

What has happened over the last 20 years, is
that people do not change motor oil but once
a year & then you have the variable valve cam issues,
that may have been explained to you

The motor should not have had all those oil leaks,
but some due

I would say sell it & try & find on that was taken better car of

It would appear that the shops you go to don't really get
into putting any effort into properly diagnosing much for
some reason

I would do a cylinder contribution test
I would do a cylinder leak down test
Remove a valve cover & look for gunk
under there
Possibly remove the cams & clean out
any oil holes & replace any solenoids
that apply to that system

I would use an oscilloscope to look at
all ignition & valve timing on a cylinder
by cylinder event, on the scope, to see
if they were occurring when they should be

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Make sure there are no ports open on the intake manifold that looks like a hose is missing.

1996 chevrolet impala ss oil leak rear of engine

Is it engine oil or transmission fluid? Is it driven often or does it sit in the garage? If engine oil, then possibly the rear seal is leaking into the bellhousing as you drive and then draining on the floor after you stop. If ****** fluid, then possibly front seal on ****** is leaking. If car sits for long periods of time the input shaft seal can allow fluid to leak past the shaft. This usually will fix itself when driven. Can't promise it will fix itself permanently. Will not be an easy fix if either seal needs replacing (or cheap).

Have your cam seals checked. Cam seals are a big problem on these cars and a major source of oil leaks. Another source is the oil cooler gasket but that doesn't appear to be the issue here as your leaks are well above the oil cooler. Good Luck.

Not an expert on this, but I would change the oil and oil filter and you might want to check all belts/hoses under the hood for cracking and replace as necessary. It's likely you'll have to do that after a car sitting idle so long. Don't know if spark plugs should be replaced after not firing for that long, but maybe you want to take a look at those as well.

1997 Eagle Talon TSI AWD oil pressure goes from zero to normal and back

Te 1st thing to do is replace the oil pressure guage sending unit, most times that is the problem, if press remains low use a mechanical test guage to verify what the oil pressure is, hook this tester up at the port the sending unit is screwed into.
