Headlights go out while driving

2003 Impala - while driving the headlights go out for a few seconds and then come back on - just started and I have 117,000 miles - any suggestions?

    I have a call into GM - keep missing his call though. I emailed them and told them that it could be a huge lawsuit if there was to be an accident when that happens. I HOPE they will fix it free of charge.
    It's scary when it does that.
    How is your transmission doing? Mine has started shifting hard and I guess that is a problem with Impalas. I love my car but I can't see buying another one until they get some of these problems ironed out.

I have the same car around the same mileage, and mine have done that a couple of times. I've also noticed that it's real touchy when switching the brights on and off (sometimes only flashes bright and goes back to normal beams without "catching", and I have to do it again to turn them on). Possibly something in the wiring of that turn signal that's going out?

2003 Chevy Impala - radio, instrument lights/displays go very, very dim when headlight turn on (auto on feature...sensor on dash). Turning dimming knob up does not help.

There are two possible cause of dim display.

On the deluxe trim level of the Impala the is light sensor. When the sensor mis-calibrated the light will not be at the level you want.

As a test,use a small flash light and aim to the sensor and see is the circuit act according it.

====
The dimmer light is a VERY CHEAP component. I will glow it out with compress air 1st. Turn the dial back and forth 20-30 time in rapid motion will help remove unwanted carbon,

Is the headlight in OEM specification?

After market headlights may draw more amperage and cause low power for smaller bulbs.

2003 Impala headlights stopped working. I checked

Ok, locate the relay panel (probably inder the hood) and find the relay that controls the headlamps. With your headlight switch "on", pull the relay and see if your getting a hot current to the connectors in the relay panel. If it's hot, replace the relay. If no current, it's probably your headlight switch.

I am trying to replace the headlights on my 2003 chevy impala.

You open your bonnet, remove the bulb, check the watts and replace with a higher wattage bulb.
