well go to auto parts store buy the oil pressure sending unit then while you at auto parts store you can take new oil pressure sending unit try different size sockets to find the correct size socket you need.
The Oil Pressure Switch is located:Under hood, center, rear engine area, driver side of distributor, mounted in block. Here's what it looks like.he oil pressure switch is mounted to the top rear of the engine.
LOW OIL PRESSURE WILL CAUSE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH OR SENDING UNIT TO DISABLE FUEL PUMP.CHECK FOR OIL PRESSURE.REMOVE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT SCREW IN OIL PRESSURE GAUGE TESTER INTO BLOCK WHERE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT GOES TURN ENGINE OVER CHECK FOR OIL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 18 PSI @ 2000 RPM. BESURE TO WRAP TEFLON PLUMBERS TAPE AROUND THREADS TO THE OIL GAUGE PRESSURE TESTER OIL WILL SPRAY EVERY WHERE.IF YOU ARE GETTING NO OIL PRESSURE.YOUR OIL PUMP FAULTY.YOUR ENGINE CRANKSHAFT BEARINGS WORN OUT.WORN DAMAGED CAMSHAFT OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR OR OIL PUMP DRIVE ROD DAMAGED OR BROKEN. IF OIL PRESSURE OKAY OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT IS BAD.
I have seen this problem, if you have no oil pressure the engine would be rattling, the oil pressure sending unit could be bad, you can buy a oil pressure gauge to test and make sure oil pressure is ok, the sending unit may fix your problem.
spend the 12 dollars and get a universal mechanical oil pressure gauge, remove the oil sending unit on truck and screw new gauge into and start truck. Does it read pressure? I know people will say just replace oil sending unit but i like to visually check for a true oil pressure than to trust a light, at least you will know what pressure your motor has. if you have pressure then replace the sending unit. Most of the time when the sending unit goes bad your oil pressure gauge in the truck will run at 80 psi all the time. Since you have a light the sending unit just says it isn't getting pressure which turns a light on. So be safe and do as i suggest, if there is no pressure at the mechanical gauge then i hate to say it but you may have a bad oil pump. I honestly just think you have a bad sending unit,if you want just replace it and if lights go off thats good, but you still don't know what the pressure is and if you feel comfortable with this then do so.
Sorry to say, but oil sending unit has nothing to do with oil pressure. Best case scenario for low oil pressure would be you need an oil and filter change. Better case scenario would be you need to drop oil pan and clean screen on bottom of the oil pump. Worse case scenario would be due to excessive miles on engine which causes wear on compression rings and/or crank shaft bearings where oil pressure originates from. It might be good to have a compression test done on all cylinders by a certified mechanic or at least someone who knows what they're doing. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Good luck! over4dy
there is no oil up in the intake area so its nothing you could have done BUT the oil pressure reading comes from the oil pressure sending unit near the dist. housing. you had to remove the dist. when changing the intake so maybe the sensor or it's connection are loose.
good luck chris
